Oh I'm gonna be stressed... So my husband is at the vet right now with Rae. We suspect she has a UTI. Well he messaged me and told me that she needs to have a dental ASAP and that it is important enough to schedule it for next week. BUT Shes only 2.5 lbs!! So I'm VERY VERY nervous. Shes sooo small. She is constantly eating, she eats more than my 7lb yorkie (not joking lol) but we just can't get her to gain weight. The vet said it is really important to have it done. Will she be okay :confused: I'm very confident in the vet, just nervous for her, because of her size. And then to top it all off, we have been meaning to get Wrigley neutered. Well the vet said we might as well bring him in the same day as Rae... So next week we will have both of our babies there on the same day! I'm going to be a mess all day lol Just curious, how much have you guys paid for a dental? I think our vet is charging a really reasonable price and want to see if I'm correct in thinking that. We are really happy with this vet so far... we paid $167 today, which includes the visit - some spray for her skin, some wipes for her skin, and also 50% of Rae's dental. And they are really professional there he said. At our old vet they changed us an ADDITIONAL $10 to the wellness check just to look at her ears, because that is an extra service or something. We came out of last vet with a $400 bill! And they weren't very professional there anyways. MUCH happier with these people, they actually seem to know what they are talking about. The last Vet Tech acted offended every time I asked a simple question such as, "oh what is the purpose of this shot listed her in her schedule of stuff today?" Sorry I didn't mean for that to turn into a rant lol |
bumping for you :) |
It sounds like you have a good vet that you have confidence in. How old is your baby? She is a tiny thing, but if the vet thinks her teeth need immediate attention then I would do it. I'm sure somebody will have better advice for you...I really just wanted to say good luck:) The vet prices sound reasonable to me, btw! |
What is the emergency with the teeth? You went for one problem and they found another?! What happened with the UTI? I'm confused. |
I think for Pixie's dental it was around 250 with the preop blood work and the medicine and 5 teeth pulled. Pixie is about 3 3/4 lbs and she did great with her dental. She was only 2 1/2 years old but her gums and teeth were horrible. The vet had her on an antibiotic 3 days before and 5 days after. She should do fine but I know how we worry. Also better to get them both done and over with. I was going to have Roxie spayed the same day as Pixie's dental last summer but Roxie came into heat 2 days before. |
I think my babies run about 350 which includes IV fluids and full blood panel. |
Sorry.. this might sound silly- but what is a dental when it comes to a dog? Is it when they have to extract teeth? Eeek.....i feel dumb:p |
Sorry, we went out of town for the weekend. They go in tomorrow. She went in because we thought she had a UTI (she was suddenly going to the bathroom A LOT) Well they got a urine sample (but not a lot) and said there was no signs of a UTI in her urine, and now shes back to normal, so that is good. But in the exam they noticed that her back teeth were really bad. She is 3 years old. We brush them several times a week, but apparently that isn't enough. They didn't say it was an emergency, just that they were really bad and that it needed to be done so that her teeth don't get worse. Wrigley will be neutered tomorrow, so I'll be a wreck tomorrow with them both in there getting stuff done. |
I'm moving to where you guys live. Last week Sissy was sick, so I took her to the vet. The vet did blood work, heartworm test and gave us antibiotics=248 dollars. She also mentioned that she needed a dental cleaning and have broken off one of her teeth at the gum line. So she gave us an estimate between 500 and 800 dollars (and mind you the blood work is already done!). Oh, the joys of living close to NYC. Next time I go to my dentist I'm going to tell him there is something he should look into-dog dentistry:D |

They are there now :( They freaked us out, because they called a few mins ago. My husband saw who it was and got a weird look on his face. I guess they ended up saying something like "This is so and so from the vet. DON'T WORRY Wrigley is FINE" before they said anything else lol. I guess after they started they realized he had one baby tooth that still needed to come out and they needed to get our permission. She was rushed though (I'm guessing so she could go tell them to go ahead and take it out) so he didn't get to ask about Rae. I assume shes doing just fine though since she didn't say anything about her. It's gonna be a long wait until 5 for me! |
Great news!!! My husband just called and he is on the way home with Rae and Wrigley. He said they are both doing fine, Wrigley is kinda whiny, and clingy but fine. He's wearing his tiny little cone. He said Rae is doing well also, and just sleepy. I'm sooo glad we changed vets. They cared a lot more about our dogs, and we ended up paying $281 for Rae's dental, Wrigley's neuter, all of the meds, cone and pre-op blood work done for both of them. Our old vet wanted $400 just for a neuter. And I feel much more confortable with the knowledge of this vet. I guess we don't have to give them any pain meds. They injected them with pain meds and they said they should be fine. Which I think is nice, because it probably gets into their system faster, and I don't have to worry about forgetting to give it to them. |
So glad to hear that your babies are fine and on their way home. Sending great big get well fast hugs from Coco, Pebbles and Trixie |
Thanks :) |
Wow! You got out at a really reasonable price!! So glad they are ok too! |
