Any Advise on Crazy Barking? When Canella hears other dogs in another yard she starts going crazy barking...the dogs are not running loose or anything she cant even see them with the fence in the way but if she ever hears anyone or anything in that yard she goes nuts! please if anyone knows what i can do to stop her crazy barking give me some ideas!! She is so loud that my fiance tells me not to bring her to his mom's house because she wakes up the baby and anyone in the house at night...i dont like leaving her at home so ill try anything!! |
I wish I could help. Samson does the same thing, we correct him for the excessive barking in the house (shake a bottle with pennies in it) but we don't when he is outside since we want that to be the area he can be a dog. The bottle thing usually works to stop his barking. Harley hasn't found his voice yet so he doesn't bark at all, but I am waiting, Samson didn't find his voice until he was around 5-6 months old. |
I had 2 poodles in the past and they would always bark at the drop of a hat. When I got Kinsey, I didn't want her to bark like that. I watched the Dog Whisperer and He said to block unwanted behavior. I have done this for 3 weeks now on her barking and she is not barking so much now. It was persistance of blocking her from barking and saying NO that stopped her barking. It didn't work over night. Hope this helps you out. Good Luck to you. |
Geez, I wish you luck. Winston barks like crazy with our neighbors dogs...running all along the fence line with them...back and forth. He's pretty good in the house, but outside, he just loves to run and bark with "the big dogs". I hope someone has an answer...but I imagine it would require him being leashed in his own yard, that way you would have control of him. |
My dog barks in the house like that, we can't figure out what she wants, so I asked a dog trainger when I was taking her to puppy class. She suggested a squirt gun or spray bottle, filled with plain cold water. When the crazy barking starts, say "QUIET' and when they don't stop, start spraying with water until they stop barking. When they stop, then give them a hug or a small treat and say "Good _ _ _ _" name and praise the dog. Keep it up until they get the idea. All I have to do now is tell my baby, "Abby, mommy squirt? " and she quiets right down! The she will run over and lick the spray bottle nozzel!!! She knows it dosn't hurt, it is just annoying...... like crazy barking is annoying to us ;) Don't get me wrong, barking is natural, right in some situations and a dog's gotta bark, but, not Crazy barking !!!! |
haha that is so funny!! yeah i really should try that...its just not very convenient to carry around a squirt bottle! haha Quote:

Squirt Bottle worked for me Sully was doing this and I spritzed him with the water while saying "No!"....Didn't like that now did he? LOL He stopped. Now I keep the bottle close by and all I have to do is pick it up and he stops. Too funny - they are soooo smart. |
A water gun is good to stop them too! The old still ones nothing that pinch them! Except for Teddy that will try to fight back. I work well for my other dogs. |
Canella, you don't have to carry around a squirt bottle or a can of pennies in your hand constantly, just put it in a strategic place and convenient for grabbing quickly;) For instance, you can put it on a table in the living room while you are in there and carry it to a kitchen table or counter while you're in there. Spray bottles can be used for bath time too or when you have to put stray Yorky hair in place, or spritz a plant, they are great for multi-tasking ;) |
For dogs running along a fence, if the neighbor is as frustrated as you, perhaps a bit of a nice "oh by the way chat" with the folks next door and team work is in order, if you squirt your dog with a hose and your neigbor also uses a hose at the same time on thier dogs, perhaps dogs on both sides of the fence will learn to get along quietly ;) Or maybe they'll give you permission to squirt all dogs at the same time :) Just don't get caught in the cross fire squirt ;) |
