If you're not a dog lover, you won't understand I have had Cash for more than two years now and have finally found a new puppy. I am getting her today, but now my family is freaking out. They say that I don't respect their feelings. They don't like dogs in the house - they like staffies, but only as outside dogs - and they don't understand why I do. We grew up with dogs outside and I never had the feeling of having a dog, just that there were always dogs. Now, I like inside dogs and I love yorkies. Cash was the best decision I ever made and they don't understand that. They think that I am still young (23) and shouldn't have any responsibilities (I like responsibilities, I've always liked caring for a pet). My dad says that I won't get a man because I have a package and that the guy might not like dogs inside. I say that if he doesn't like animals, we would never be together anyway. I live in an apartment with my sister and she is excited about the puppy, so the dogs won't even be inside with them - Cash used to when we visit them, but I have made arrangements now that I am getting a second one. They think that yorkies are not real dogs  and that being so into your dogs, is deviant. Urrrggghhhhh! Sorry for the vent, but I really need someone to be on my side. |
:) Never mind, I didn't read your post as closely as I should have. Good luck. |
Oh yeah, I should have made that clearer. I pay for everything - part-time work. I have never asked them to pay for anything. They don't even really support me anymore (this is the last year of my studies). My dad refused to pay for my last year of studies, so I have a loan. The financial aspect of having a dog doesn't affect them at all. |
Um..I hope your dad has a better reason for not paying for school than the fact that you are getting another pup. You are right about the man...love me, love my dog. If he doesn't...he's not the one for you. Tell Dad you are too young to get married...you have to raise your pups first!:p |
Well, in my opinion, it is your life, it is your choice. PS, if you need a puppy sitter, I'm just up in Table View (hint hint hint). |
You know, you are always going to do things as an adult that your family will question. It's what being your own person is all about. Making your own choices and decisions. As long as you are self-supporting and not living in their home, all they really can do is voice their opinion. Part of growing up is learning how to deal with people with different viewpoints. Family is the hardest test you'll run up against. But if you can learn now, at your young age, how to deal with this tactfully & respectfully then they are giving you one of the best gifts you can receive. Grow a thicker skin, recognize you all have different ideas and accept theirs (misguided as it is :p) and don't blow your top over it. You will be amazed at what an advantage this will be in your life as you come up against other situations that require a calm, cool, respectfully reaction. And remember...you are the one that will help decide where they live when they get old. ;):D |

Yah I agree with what has been said!! You live on your own...It's YOUR life...do what makes YOU happy!! You cannot please everyone ALL the time... Sounds like your family has dog issues...... Good luck!!! And Congrats on the baby!!! |
1 Attachment(s) I got the puppy yesterday, little June Carter. She is so tiny and cute. She slept on my lap all day yesterday, has only had one accident - the rest on the potty pad, and is currently exploring the living room under Cash's watchful eye. Thanks for all the replies and the support. It is difficult for me to go against what they want, but it is about time. Here is my new baby... |
Omygosh what a little doll. Good luck with her hon. Just enjoy and love her and you will see mom and dad will come around. They sound like they are just having problems letting go of their little girl. ;) |
Congradulations on your new baby ! your an adult! Live your life. Your family will not always agree with your choices, however they now have no control over the decisons you make:) There is nothing wrong about doing what makes you happy. For goodness sakes. If they don't get it, than they don't get it. That is not your problem. It's there's . Do not let it get to you. Sepatate them from you. THeey are entitled to there opionins and thougths, however it is your own choice in the matter, the beauty of adulthood !Enjoy :) :aimeeyork |
