ears up?? at what age did all of your pups ears stand up? just wondering if there is an average age? or if it can happen whenever... thanks! |
By 12 weeks Madison's ears were up, except the tip on one ear bent down. She is 17 weeks now, and both ears have been straight up for a couple weeks now. |
About 3 1/2 months, for Apple....but I think it varies from pup to pup.... |
Missy's have always been up. |
I had a pup who's ears stood at 5 weeks and one that went up right about the 12 week mark. I did tape her ears to help but they eventually came up. |
About 3 months |
Pebbles one ear stood up at about 10 weeks, but the other one did not, so I went to a groomer and had her ears shaved half way down and within two days the other ear came up. she is now 12 weeks and her ears are up strait. |
Mine was a late bloomer------between 14 and 15 weeks. One stood up. About two weeks later, the other did also. |
Piper's ears were up by 12 weeks. They seemed to just pop up over night. One day they were down and the next they were standing tall. |
Ears up 2 Attachment(s) Zipper's ears stood up at 16 weeks and Daisy's ears stood up at age 7 years. I guess she stands them up when there is a very strange noise any keeps them 1/2 standing when she isn''t alert. |
My dog's ears stood up at six months due to taping them. They stand up all the time now. |
How do you tape their ears? Mine has one ear that won't stand up. |
4 months about. |
Is it always necessary to tape ears to get them to stand up? We have 5 week old puppies and I am not sure if I am supposed to tape or leave nature to its own course. I am going to get a trimmer for their little feet because I can no longer see their nails, and it wouldnt hurt to get them used to the sound and feel of clippers I suppose, but I dont want to tape if it isnt necessary. (I am a first timer with yorkie pups) The babies are getting so big now, so much more like little dogs, just want to do everything on the right timetable. |
mine is 12 weeks old and still don't stand up  i didn't know they was suppose to till i ran across this thread. what happens if they don't stand up? |
I have heard that while they are teething their little ears droop, if they have already been up, and that as the hair grows on their ears it weighs them down so they droop. So I suppose we should tape while they are teething, (which mine are doing now) and shave ears when they are hairy. Right? |
They are all different. I have 5 puppies now. One's ears were up at 4 weeks (see Quints are Thriving in the Nursery Forum). They are 6 weeks old now and two have their ears up all the time, two are half/half and one has not come up yet, unless he is startled and then they come up alert. :) Usually if there is a problem with them coming up on their own, you can just shave the top third triangle of the ear and they will come up. I have never had to tape any, but there are instructions for that here on YT. By 16 weeks if they are not standing on their own and the shaving did not work, then I would look into taping them. I have noticed from being here on YT that some of the larger dogs have more floppy ears. I am not sure if that is genetics or if they were just not shaved or taped when younger. |
One of Boots' ears stood up when he was about 8 weeks, the other ear the tip was bent.... until i cut his ear hair ;)(twelve weeks).... both were straight up...:D |
Ears with a puppy attached 1 Attachment(s) I had to respond to this since Daisy had such big ears that were up when I got her at ten weeks. She seemed like a life support for ears! Here she is at 11 weeks. |
