Tell me what you know.... about pom's. I have found a few really cute ones-are they compatible with yorkies. What is their temperament? I was not able to get the rescue from the shelter that I tried for-but there are some pom's here at the shelter that are adorable. A boy and a girl. He is 3 and she is 7. I really like him-but am not quite ready to commit to anything. Just looking more for information. Thanks a bunch!! |
We had a Peka-Pom mix when I was young and she was a great dog. A friend has a purebred Pom now that is just sweet as can be. Funny he's so much bigger than our mix was. Our neighbor had a Pom too and she was also a sweet dog she was a little smaller than our mix. |
My friend has a pom and she is supper cute/nice the only HUGE difference between poms and yorkie poms shed hair like CRAZY..if your use to not having to vacuum everyday that will change...lol but other then shedding they are supper awesome dog. |
We had Poms for years lost our last one last June:( If raised in the right enviroment they are wonderful babies. Ours loved everyone and other animals as well. Was very easy to train and very polite to others. We couldnt of asked for a better furbaby. They are very lovable snuggly babies but not nearly as demanding of your time. They entertain themselves when you are busy. Like all puppies alot depends on how you raise them. I dont know about compatabilty with yorkies but I would think they would be fine. As far as shedding goes we never had an issue with that, we kept ours brushed everyday just like we do our yorkie and never found dog hair on our funiture or clothing. She was bathed weekly also and groomed regularly. We found in our experience that their hair tends to collect at the bottom of their belly and if brushed daily you should be fine :doghouse:Charlene:animal-paMama to Laddy:animal-pa:doghouse::bunnysmiley3:Happy Easter All:eggs: |
My cousin has 4 Poms from age 2- 7 and she loves them, they are great dogs, high maintaince in grooming but adorable!! They follower her everywhere and are little cuddle bugs!! I think all her dogs have great dispostions!!:thumbup: |
My MIL had a pom & he was the meanest nastiest kid EVER. Of course he was tormented by the 3 boys in the family so...I doubt that it was his fault! |
I got a pom boy when I was 23 yo and he was 4 months old. He died 13 years later. No more perfect dog will you ever meet. Sweet as pie! The only reason we got a yorkie this time and not a pom is that the pom (Foxy) shed when you looked at him. Hair every where. All the time. You must keep a lint roller on you at all times. That being said, Foxy was a great dog. He was easily house-trained and crate-trained. I kept him in a full coat at all times. Shaved him about 3 times during the entire time he was alive. Foxy was beautiful and knew it. He spent most of his time sitting around being pretty. He never fetched a ball in his life. That was beneath him. He hated rain and snow. Luckily we don't have much snow in GA. He loved me and I loved him and will probably never get over him dying. Oh I miss him just typing this. He died in 2002. I am constantly comparing Baxter to Foxy and bless Baxter's heart but he can never measure up. As much as I love Bax, Foxy was the best! If you can get past the shedding, go for it. I still look at a couple of sights for poms and will probably end up with another one before I die. |
The pom we had when I was kid was a yapper, Barked if the wind blew. He didnt like really little kids but over all was a good dog. (we didnt get him as a pup) My sister in law just got a pom (also an adult) and he too is a huge barker and aggressive towards other dogs but friendly with people/kids. I think with the right training poms can be a great dog. :) |
I grew up with poms as family dogs. They are very loyal to their owners and family. They are yappy, and bark at everybody else. They do not like anybody else but there own family. AND they have long beautiful coats. That shed like crazy. Poms need daily brushing at least a couple times a day. Poms are absolutey adorable as puppies too. And they have very few health problems. They have long health spans, living easily 13-15 yrs. There main issues are social towards other people, they are snappy and mean ... they are the toy breed , but, think they are big dogs . These little dogs won't hesitate to chase other dogs down that are 10 times there size, no kidding. I've see it . IMO , poms are great protecters of there owners , however mean as hell to everybody else, they look cute with there curly tail that goes on top of there back, but, try and pet one that's not yours, watch out, a pom, will bare it's teeth ! NOT good with little children at all. Even older children . I don't know how in would do with a Yorkie. However, I'd choose A Yorkie over a Pom anyday. |

But to the original poster... I've never had experience with Poms, so I don't know. |
Poms are the only dog my one friend has ever had. She has 2 of them now, and keeps them brushed and they don't shed hardly at all, they're sweet little things |

Oh I don't know too much about them but one of my customers breeds them and he brought through a sweet little girl today so that I could hold her and play with her a bit, She was very tiny and seemed very sweet. Just a little ball of fluff. If my daughter didn't have allergies, I would consider one, esspecailly because I get to see his everytime I work, and they are always sweet and well mannered. The puppy was a real treat to hold she just snuggled right up in my arms:) |
