OMG! I don't know what to do... I answered an ad in the paper for a 1 yr, 2 lb female. After talking with the lady (very nice lady), she told me there may be a problem. Apparently, she's a hobby, or byb. She said she had all her little ones, male & female in an expen together and did not realize the little female was in heat! This happened after she put the ad in the paper, so maybe within the last week. Her vet said an abort shot might be dangerous.....hello! Like a pg 2 lb female wouldn't be?! Anyway, I know nothing about breeding...didn't know there was an abortion shot.....please any advice here? I'm so upset I'm shaking from my conversation with her. I'm going to call back this afternoon after she talks to the vet again today. How soon can they tell if she is pregnant? and if she's not, is 2 lb safe to spay? Oh, and btw, the reason she's selling her is because "she's too small to breed"!!! |
WOW!!! How frustrating!!!!!!!!!!! She needs to be spayed ASAP!!! Yes, it may be a little risky because she is so small, but its even more risky for her to carry a litter. How irresponsible on that BYBders part. IMO  |
Some vets won't use the abortion shot because it can be risky. Spaying may be a better option. A two pound female can be spayed but doing it to a two pound pregnant female will carry more risk. It's just a bad situation... :( |
If you get her have her spayed ASAP. The surgery is easier on a 2 lb.er than the abortion shot. This woman is beyond irresponsible...Putting males and females in the same ex-pen!! I hope you do get her just to get her away from this woman. I will keep my fingers crossed for you both...Good-Luck...:goodluck::xfingers: Post pics of the little one when you get her!! :) |
Question about the abortion shot......how soon after the dogs tie can she get it? I mean, I might consider her if after the shot she's ok, but, what if she's too pg? I don't know if I could handle it if I get her pg and something awful happens to her.:( |
I've never heard of an abortion shot. I would definitely get her spayed if you get her. They can abort the puppies at the same time. Poor baby...It's so sad, that lady needs to stop breeding...she doesn't know what she's doing! |
1 Attachment(s) Just got pictures of her... |
another..... sorry that one didn't work...but you can see how pretty she is. |
Oh my! She is GORGEOUS, and the spitting image of my 2 pound baby girl. (Well, mine is 2.14) I do have a breeder friend (BYB) who claims she bred a 2 pounder before, but it was to a male who was even smaller and he was a true tiny, from generations of tinies.. I don't know if that matters, as I know nothing about breeding, but could you find out the size of the males who were in the ex pen with her? Maybe it would be less dangerous if they were all tiny. |
I don't think she knows which of her males got to her, but she said she had all the tiny ones, 2 - 3 lbs, together so they wouldn't get hurt or under foot. |
She is so pretty! |

Sure wish there was a legal way to torture that woman to the same degree as this tiny 2 lb baby will be . My goodness how many of you have gotten your puppies and they were almost that big - can you even imagine breeding one that tiny - and any responsible person would have had her isolated or spayed to prevent the possibility -- and i hope no one considers her a breeder - just a IGNORANT dog owner . ok I've vented :D |
Oh she is very pretty. You should get her and haveher spayed. If the lady keeps her is she going to allow her to keep the puppies? |
What a beautiful little girl! Is she 100% sure they tied? Why would she put a girl in especially in heat? UGH.. what a mess! |
No, I just spoke with her. She's waiting for a call back from the vet to set up a spay date. After that, I'm going to keep in touch and hope things work out for me. See my post in the breeders section for more info on conditions at her house. :( |
She is beautiful.. |
So the BYB is going to get her spayed and pay for it herself, then sell her to you? And someone said in this thread that it's more dangerous to spay a prego dog than one who is not pregnant... How much more dangerous? And how far along is she at this point? Poor little pup... |

Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me. |
Finger's crossed for you. She is such a little beauty. I hope she does accept your offer so this little one can get into the right hands. Will watch for an update. |
I hope all works out for this little girl. Good luck! |
Sounds like a very good idea on your part. I'd much rather my vet do it as well. Maybe the byb will go for it as she won't have to pay for and deal with the spay. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both. I know nothing about a shot for pg dogs...sorry! PS: She's a doll!!!! |
Update! Well, she turned down my offer.:(....she's going to have her fixed and add the cost when she advertises her again. My heart is so sad, but, my head says things work out for a reason. Having a 14 lb, 10 lb, 8.5 lb & two 7.5 lbers already might be a bit much for a 2 lber anyway. |

I feel for you, I know how much you would like to get her. Actually if she's full blooded, the price isn't bad at all |
You have inspired me! :D I haven't give up yet......another question though, and maybe I'll go to the breeder section; she gives the shots herself; is this ok, or common for breeders to do? |
She sounds like she really cares for the future of the little one. She may be worried that you are going to take the pups to term. Maybe your vet could call her re: the spay. |

I'm glad that you haven't given up. I was a little disheartened when I read that she didn't accept your offer and you were just going to let it go. I wouldn't let the size of your other dogs be the reason that you don't pursue this little beauty. I have a 20 lbs dog who does incredibly well with my little 3 lb Missy. I really hope you and that breeder can work something out. I think this little one needs to be with someone who truly cares about her. |
DId she give you a reason why she turned down your offer? I'd keep trying to communicate with her. The Yorkie she has is beautiful. What is she loooking for in a new owner? Let her know that you will provide her with anything she requests to prove to her that the yorkie will be in a wonderful, new , and forever home. You know about Yorkie's your familiar with the breed, what else could she possibly want? Is it the money? Maybe that's it? She's trying to sell her Yorkie for a better offer? i'd really keep trying with the lady. This Yorkie deserves a really good home. |

Oh Linda, what a crazy situation to be in. I can see why you're already emotionally attached to the little girl. She is so precious in her pictures. I'm concerned about the little 2lb baby though. I think it's so risky to put a small baby under anethesia... but I guess if she is pregnant, then the risk is pregnancy is worse...??? My heart goes out to the little baby girl, and to you because I know you care for her now. As painful as it is, just let the breeder do what she has to do, and let the puppy go. You can always call her up later to ask how the puppy is doing. Then at that time, if you feel in your heart that you still want her, then go for it. ;) |
