Bad breath My five month old yorkie's baby teeth fell out and her new adult teeth are now out. Since this happened she now has bad breath. At the same time though I was switching her from Science diet to wellness. She loves the Wellness and i'm glad because she's now getting the right nutrition. Can anyone give me any advice on how to get rid of the bad breath?? I'm not sure if it has to do with her new food or new teeth??? Thank you!!! Naomi and Fifi :thumbs up |
Welcome to YT! Sorry your thread got burried and not answered. Since your baby is 5 months old, she may still have some remaining baby teeth which is very common. When you have her spayed in the next couple of months, just have them pull all the rest of her baby teeth and that should help her breath too. I give my girls dental treats which really helps with their breath and teeth. Also give her lots of things to chew on so that she can get all those baby teeth out as much as possible. I'm having the same problem with my 7mth old Mandie. She still has quite a few baby teeth left (which will be pulled when I have her spayed) and most of the big teeth. She looks like a shark!!! But its usually when one of the baby teeth is about to fall out, the gum around the tooth comes loose, turns a dark black color and thats when her breath REAKS!!!! I can smell it when she is just sitting by me. I have toothpaste but i haven't tried that yet. Does anyone know if that would helP??? |
The gum is opening when their teeth are being pushed out and this smell is sometimes described as "fishy", it's probably from the blood of losing the baby teeth. Double rows of teeth often have another reason for smelling bad, food gets caught in the double row, and then you have the smell of rotten food. Both might be described as rotting fish, lol, not too much you can do, brushing helps get rid of the food in crevices, and chewing sticks can help loosen baby teeth a little faster, but soon they will have their sweet breath back. |
breath I had that breath problem with Charlie around 5 months. I was told here that it is common during a growth spurt. After the spurt (about 5 weeks) the smell was gone!!! |
Jackson's got the funky breath going on right now, He's 6 months. His canine teeth though have the two double rows of teeth so I'm sure that's the problem. He's getting neutered in 2 weeks and they will be removed. |
bad breath My sweetest little princess is 13 mos. old and has always had bad breath. Has a perfect set of teeth, big and strong looking. Her breath was really bad during the switch from primary to permanent but it is always bad. I brush every night, use various sprays and gels from various pet shops and it really is not conducive to allowing to lick me. Talked to the vet, she does not have any answers. The dog is the sweetest pure bred yorkie one could want: pretty, smart, sensible, trainable,pretty perfect, except the breath and laxatin patella and open fontanel (spelling?) Any comments please? Same issues with my Lola....really bad breath. 19 months old the only difference here is that she just gave birth to four beautiful pups three weeks ago this coming Thursday. She pants a lot and I know open mouth breathing contributes greatly to bad breath. She normally eats dry kibble only but during the nursing period she is eating puppy kibble and puppy wet food along with eggs, cottage cheese, etc. Maybe it's all the new food. Any help would be appreciated. :confused: |
Well Roxie is 2 and still has awful breath. When she was spayed around 5 months old or so I had them pull out the baby teeth that needed to come out. She has pretty teeth but stinky breath. I've been giving her the ziggies and I think it's helping somewhat. Not sure what the answer is to all of this but am starting to brush her teeth a couple of times a week now so hopefully this helps. I've wondered if it's her food before too. If I didn't have the cats food up on the dryer out of her reach I'd think she was eating that fishy cat food! UG! |
