Thanks heavens you were there to protect your little one. I have read stories on YT in the past where other's were not so lucky. It stayed in my mind for day's thinking of the horror of the poor dog and the owner watching it dissapear with the bird. I can't imagine going threw such torment. Be carefull everyone and don't take chances. Of course I don't have to worry about Buddy. No one bird alive today could get his heavy butt off the ground.;) |
wow.. how scarey. IM glad that he is safe. ((hugs)) |

What incredible pics, it gave me chills just looking at the Baldie. The bird in front spreading his(her?) wings was an eagle too? |
I am so glad that your little one is safe. Anyone who had heard the hawk's hunting cry will remember it always. It's kind of like the smell of a skunk -- it's something you don't forget. I would also like to thank you for your timely reminder to watch out for birds of prey. Nesting season has started in my neck of the woods and I am sure that the birds are working extra hard to feed nestlings. |

hello thanks for the warning i have heard in my building that they come to get the pigeons but now i would look out for my yorkie than you so much:animal-pa |
Thank goodness you were able to get to your baby quick enough to save it... |
Glad your baby is safe. We have hawks in our area also. While I know it is natural for a small dog to be prey for the large birds, it is a shame the pups can't run free in their own fenced yard for a few minutes. If I had known then, what I know now, I would have gotten the largest Yorkie I could have. Instead, I have a 4 lb. 10 month old. Of course, that is one reason he is loved so much because we have to be so careful with him. |
you have to consider this though...even if your baby is a teapot and big the bird may not be able to carry it away but in to process of trying they could seriously hurt them... |

Thank-you for the reminder...... I know that some Yorkie owners have had some tragic instances. :( |
I have Krissy and Teddy who are to big to carry away but the rest are small enough to be picked up. I'm very carefull to either be out with them of make sure Teddy is on patrol. He watches the sky like crazy. He barks at every bird that flys over the yard. |
Birds of Prey, Racoons and other wild animals are nocturnal. They hunt at night, or right at dusk. When there is a shortage of food they will eat nearly anything. Small animals are easy targets to these large birds with giant talons. I have a field right behind my house. There were trees that had many owls perching up there every evening. They always took off looking for for dinner at the same time of evening, right before dark. These owls were enormous. I did not have Suzi back then. Snakes are also anther predator to please watch out for! Especially if your Yorkie goes on the grass. Snakes are difficult to see. They spread out and are fast. We have large black bees, and yellow jackets to worry about as well :( I am very worried about all these things that can hurt my precious yorkie. |

Is it illegal to shoot a hawk? |
We have hawks here to I have to watch out for them when the dogs are out, we had one sitting on our fence post. When I was telling my vet about it he said they will scoop a yorkie up without any problems. |
I am glad to hear your baby is alright. I have a friend that had a maltese and a hawk tried to carry it away. It was on the bigger side so it couldn't carry it off but the talons hurt the dog pretty bad. I don't ever let the small ones out unless I am there to watch, too much can go wrong too quickly. I also make sure Daisy is out with them to watch over them as she is very protective of them. I do have a question though. Does having trees protect you more or just the opposite? We have trees over our entire yard and I would think it would be difficult for a hawk to swoop in with all the branches and limbs in the way. I pity the hawk the tries swooping down with Daisy around, lol. |
Hawk I have to tell you, last summer, a big bird...I thought maybe a falcon since the city is raising them, swooped down a pulled a Koi fish out of my pond, scarry:eek: |

Eagles will prey on small to medium animals and if they are too heavy to carry them off they will use their talons to tear them apart. Don't mean to gross anyone out just letting you know not even a teapot would be safe from some of these predators. Keep a close eye on your babies.... |
Yes hawks can be scary. We've had several sightings in our area. One day we were sitting outside and saw a hawk pick up a squirrel off the top of an out building. Fortunately for the squirrel the hawk dropped him. He seemed ok, he was one lucky squirrel. Please be careful!!! |

You can never be to protective of your lil ones...even thou my baby is 7.7 lbs I know that a hawk could hurt her badly with it's talons and even had one swoop down last summer under my patio cover to get her while I was at my computer watching...but luckily she was indoors at the time.....I don't let her outside anymore without my being right with her. I am glad that your baby is alright. My brother works for a company that manufactures pool fencing and I am having him check into getting me something that will cover her xpen so that she can be outside during the summer without me having to worry. |
I dont know what size your xpen is but when looking on line I found some that have covers sold seperately to go on them. I will be buying both. Not wanting to risk it after yesterday :doghouse:Charlene:animal-paMama to Laddy:doghouse::bunnysmiley3:Happy Easter All:eggs: |

Does anyone remember the lady that made some ornaments or something for the Clinton's and they had feathers on them from a hawk? She got into some pretty serious trouble for just having feathers. She didn't do anything wrong really or not that she was aware of. I think she had found the feathers or something (can't remember where she got them) but it was an innocent mistake. |
That is so scary! We live by the water and in December-February there are usually alot of eagles and hawks around, we even had one who used to hang out in our back yard for hours at our old house almost as if he was waiting for the minute he could swoop down and grab Chloe. When she is alone outside we always make sure someone is right by the door watching her. |
