My 5 month old has a cracking sound in his hind leg My male 5 month old, Pottsy, has a cracking sound in his "ankle" when he moves it. It's only in that one leg and it doesn't seem to bother him.. I will take him to the vet, but I don't feel like its super urgent because he gets around just fine and it's been going on for a while now. Nothing feels out of place or anything. I;m jst wonderin if anyone else has had this problem and if so what did you do about it..> Are there any vitamins that support bone and joints in dogs? Or maybe a dog calcium supplement? |
Sounds like Luxating Patella. At 5 months old, and you are hearing this, he is probably at a Grade 3 or 4 - You need to talk to a Vet. |
Someone had suggested to this to me before , but I don't think that's what it is. The typical signs of a luxating patella are dogs that don't stand on one leg, hopping like a bunny, etc. They also say some dogs with this can't bend their leg at all. He has none of these symptoms. And the noise isn't coming from his knee, its coming from down by his foot.. I will still take him to the vet and suggest this to him, but I think it may be something else. Thanks for the info, though.. |
If it was me I would take him into the vet and have it checked out to make sure exactly where it is located. Although....I did get a replacement puppy from a breeder that was found to have a pop in her hock. Our vet told us that they see this a LOT from puppies that were crated most of their puppyhood. :( They stated nothing to be worried about and exercise would be the best medicine. |

You only see those symptoms when it pops out of place and stays there. Most times they are asymptomatic at his age. It is very important to get his knees checked now, while he is still a puppy. If you got a health guarantee, it is especially important because LP in a puppy his age is genetic. |
I didn't get a health guarantee because I bred the parents and he is from my litter. I will definately take him to the vet this week then. Hopefully they will tell me that he is ok. I was thinking about maybe breeding him in the future but if this is a genetic problem, I def. won't want to pass it on. |

But in your other thread you said: "Ok. when I got my yorkie they told me that his mom and dad were akc registered but I opted not to get the papers because they charged more. Since then, I have lost all contact with the breeder and she has moved. I don't even remember her last name. Well, the AKC now has a program where they will somehow test your dog to see if it was from AKC lineage and if it was, they will register it with no papers if you send it a 3 generation pedigree. The problem is I have no idea how I am supposed to find out his pedigree. He is only going to weigh 3 lbs if that full grown and I would really like to stud him out. I can register him with CKC but that's not that great. Anyone have any advice???" Is this the same yorkie? |
Debra, stop stalking me. The akc questions have nothing to do with his leg problem. Go pick a fight elsewhere because I don't have time to subscribe to your BS... and yes, same yorkie. So what? |
