It's Camping Season How many of us members camp with our furbutts? In the past we only had 2 but this year we will have 4. We have an ex-pen and all the normal travel stuff, just wandering how you guys do camping? We love to camp and the 2 older babies do fine, wandering if you have experience with 2 adults and 2 5 month olds? Our first trip is the weekend after Easter. We have a travel trailer so everyone is comfy but what about the barking with 4 of them:eek: sometimes they do bark at other dogs and passersby:rolleyeshow do yours do????????? |
We will find out soon. We haven't been camping since we got our Yorkie (he's almost 2 yrs. old), and we are planning to take him with us. He is not a yappy dog at all, but we are concerned about him waking us up in the middle of the night to potty and/or too early in the morning. |
I took Triss camping with us last year when she was still a puppy (after she got her shots of course). She did great! At night, she would curl up with me on the air mattress. I put an old blanket on the grass and put her xpen over it for her to play in a spot she could see me. I plan on taking her again this year. If you use monthly flea applications, I would make sure to get the ones that cover ticks too over the camping months. Also, check them over really well with a flashlight before you bring them in the tent or they could bring ticks in to feast on you. |
My husband and I also have a travel trailer, and we take both of our Yorkies along. They are very good, when they are inside the travel trailer, sitting at the door, watching people. But when we are sitting outside, and people pass by, if my girls bark, I tap an empty paper towel roll on my chair and say, "Quiet!" in a firm, voice. The younger ones will learn from the older ones. So, if you can teach the older ones "Quiet", the younger ones will learn, as well. I would never want my girls to be a nuisance to to other campers. Good luck and enjoy the camping season! Sheila |
I am planning on taking my 2 camping this year for the first time, they will be 4 years old in Sept... I hope they do well! They CAN be yappy when they want to be... weird noises and definately other dogs make them bark! |
This will be our first year taking Zoe out. We bought a travel trailer this fall that will fit all six of us and I'm definitely nervous about fitting everyone and the Zoe in the trailer comfortably. Zoe is normally in an xpen when we are out and overnight and I can't fit the xpen in the trailer (well, I could but then we'd have no kitchen). I've been getting her used to a crate for overnight and then she'll be with us during the day or in the xpen when we are out (I can set it up temporarily in the kitchen for days.) I'm definitely nervous about having her out and about "in the wild" and making sure she is protected from pests. We will be gone several weeks this summer and then a bunch of weekend trips so hopefully we'll have all the wrinkles smoothed out early on :) |
My dad, his girlfriend of 8 years and their son (my bro) go camping all the time. My dad owns an RV. I don't really go as much like I used to when I was younger but they're going to a beach/campground on Memorial Day Weekend and I'm really anxious to take Jackson! I know he will love it. He loves going to parks and being around other people and dogs and going for walks! So, I plan on taking him, for sure! I think he'll have a blast. Their dog, Lily, goes with them and she loves it. She's not "bad" per say but she is very annoying as she barks at every animal that walks by the RV. I will just have to practice with Jackson to make sure he doesn't copy her! Also, we go to Gettysburg, PA every year for July 4th and I really want to take Jackson! |
