BRAVO, YorkieTalkers! You've contributed $440 to Humane Society of Missouri! 1 Attachment(s) Hi, YTers -- This past week, Oliver and I visited the Humane Society of Mo to present our donation on behalf of YorkieTalk. It was a great morning; we got to meet two of the dedicated staff, as well as little Miss Esther, one of the few Yorkies remaining at the facility following the February raid of a southwest Mo Yorkie puppy mill. (I think -?-I have successfully attached a photo of the presentation.) You may recall that following the raid, I initiated a fundraiser here on YT -- for the next 6 weeks, I pledged all profits from sales of my book, HOW THE YORKIE RESCUED SANTA, to the abused Yorkies at HSMO. I thought I could clear $300 for the donation. However, I underestimated the generosity of readers on this board! Contributions went over the top, and I was able to write a check for $440! The staff allocated your donation to the HSMO Cinderella Fund, which covers the medical/dental and rehab care of severely compromised animals. This is the fund that helped in the recovery of little Esther, who will be ready any day now to go to her forever home. This project has been such a joy -- and I have especially loved meeting/corresponding with the amazing, caring members of YorkieTalk. Every day brings a lift when I log on and find a message. Oliver and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Finally, I'll just note that only yesterday, HSMO announced the raid of yet another puppy mill in a different corner of the state. This makes at least three in less than two months! You can read about their laudable work at Humane Society of Missouri. Wishing you and your Yorkies a beautiful spring! |
Thank You Carol (and Oliver) for your wonderful idea and generous donation. Without you two this idea never would have come about. Thank you also for taking the time to personally go to present our wonderful donation. |
Congratulations to everyone who participated! It's so important to help dogs that don't enjoy the kinds of homes our lovebugs do. |
Carol & Oliver - thank you for making this presentation in person!! How exciting to hear how much money was raised! I love the bone shaped check!! How creative of you & how generous to include YorkieTalk on the donation! I am going to send a donation off to this special fund. I am anxious to have a copy of your book too! Carol none of this would have been possible without your generosity and creativity! You are a truly generous yorkie lover |
Wonderful! My nephew LOVES the book and the fact that it came signed by you makes him feel SOOOO cool! What a wonderful thing for the yorkies at the MO shelter. I am happy to be associated with such fine people here on YT! |
Hey, everybody, thanks for your kind words. All the credit for the giant bone "check" goes to the book illustrator and my good friend, Shelley Dieterichs. She came up with the idea and orchestrated it faster than you can say YORKIE ! (To see more of her terrific kid- and animal-related work, visit her website: Good Buddy Notes It's SUCH great stuff) This whole campaign was just a matter of being in the right place with the right stuff on hand to contribute. When I first heard about the Greene County puppy mill raid -- on YT, of course -- I knew I had to do the fundraiser. I've already talked ad nauseam on this board about what a joy the whole thing has been for me. It was so important for me to get my little story out into the world, so when I hear comments like yours, Melissa, I feel that my mission is fulfilled. I am simply thrilled to know that your nephew loves the story. [By the way, I did have a "real" check on hand for HSMO! And talk about efficient: they've already sent their thank-you!] Anyway, I count myself the lucky one! See you online... |
WOW Congrats!!!!! :bravo: That's a great thing you did! :D |
