Grooming Questions I have decided that mainly because I enjoy the bathing time with Molly followed by the drying cuddling time, that I would like to learn to groom her myself. I do have a myriad of combs and brushes as well as a good Oster clipper. Also, because I need to carefully budget myself right now as well. I was just wondering if anyone has any particular grooming tips that I could use. Molly is 7 1/2 months old. She is in that shaggy, ratty-looking stage right now where her hair has grown out from the cute young puppy stage to the in-between adult stage. I was going to cut her eyebrows similar to a miniature schnauzer's and try and shape her beard better. Anyone have tips on keeping their beards from staining? Right now I've been using TropiClean's Puppy shampoo, Happy Tails Spa Sparkle & Shine Shimmering Mist leave-in conditioner and Pet Silk top knot. I have seen pics of other babies' on here in what appears to be the "puppy cut" which is how I wish Molly to end up looking. By the way, I didn't cut her brows yet because when her hair was put up into a top knot, that hair was also used. Finally, how often do you shampoo your babies on average? I don't want to over do and dry out her skin and hair. But, if I let her go more than 1 1/2 weeks, then she starts to feel like her hair is getting greasy. Any and all advice will be appreciated. Thanks. P.S. Has anyone used a Pet Jet? And if so, did you like it? :aimeeyork  :aimeeyork |
I cut my Shih Tzu's hair myself. It took some trial and error but now I think I'm getting the hang of it. When he was a puppy, there was NO WAY I could get him to sit still for me to do it. Now that he's older, it's a lot easier. Good luck. It will probaly just take a few times and you'll get a handle on it. |
I do all grooming myself. After a few bad experience with the groomer. I invest in a grooming table, clipper, etc. I do not have pet jet but got something similar name Indoor / Outdoor Pet Sprayer. I got it at petsmart and really like it. |
I found Sue's dvd invaluable for yorkie grooming. She shows several examples of different cuts, from start to finish, goes over a suggested equipment list, also shortcuts, tips etc......it was well worth the money. Crown Royal Yorkshire Terriers I bathe my yorkies every 4-5 days but then I keep their coats long and find it necessary to bathe this often. |
I took my little Zoe to the groomers thurdays and she bit the groomer, i have never had this problem with her at home, but am concidering starting to home groom as well. |
