yorkie double standard okokok....... im not REALLY mad, but that is only because the double standard doesnt affect me....... i have noticed (and my fiance asks me ALL THE TIME) that toby SKIPS steps when he is asked to do something. Like when my fiance asks toby to SIT, he will lie down because when we were training him, lie down usually came next after sit. NOW, this is where the souble standard comes in: when I tell toby to sit, he sits, when i tell him to lie down, he lies down........ he ONLY skips a step when my FIANCE is asking him to do something. this frustrated my fiance because he feels toby doesnt listen to him (which isnt the case at all)......toby just thinks that he is "outsmarting dad" , something he knows he wont get away with when i ask him to do something apparantly |
Sounds like a pretty smart little boy to me. Does he get a treat from one or the other of you when he does what he is suppose too? May be that is the difference. |
we used to give him treats when he did RIGHT, but we havent used treats in a while....... he is still obssessed with the word "cherrio" and if we say it he will come running.....lol But no, if he does it wrong...... i say no and correct him, then praise....... my fiance just ignores him if he does wrong...... i feel that it is his own fault, if he woudl dedicate more time to LEARN how to train toby himself (properly) he would have much more success and respect from toby. i think toby still opperates under the assumption that the hierarchy goes: mama, TOBY, daddy, kitty/chewtoy. hes a good boy though, we let him off leash in the woods and he came back, so hes not disobediant per say, he just likes to cut corners when he can get away with it |
My little Leah goes from sit to down to stand in the blink of an eye, I have been training her to do the combination of these three things. I ask the teacher where I take her to puppy school and she said while training her to do the combo still get her to just do one thing rather than all three. Then reward her. I'm glad I don't only have a dog that's mad about cheerios - I have to defend my breakfast if I have them! |
I love reading your stories about Toby. He sounds like such a pistol. It must aggrevate you fiance to no end when he only does things for you and not him!!! |
