Questions I asked the Breeder!! Hello all, Im new here and have not yet purchased my Yorkie, my last Yorkie was stolen probably a week after I got her :-( so, Im getting a new one and I saw a list on here on questions I should ask the breeder, I asked the breeder these questions : Do you offer support after the puppy has come home? -Will my dog come with a health guarantee? - Have you had any genetic conditions in your lines? - Where do you keep your dogs? The puppies? - How often do you breed your females? - How many litters do you have a year? and this was her reply : Hey, Yes all pups come backed with a year`s warranty. They are Vet. checked on a 12 point exam 48 hours before they go to their new homes. We have no bloodlines that carry any conditions other than the issues that go along with the breed of Yorkies, just as every breed of canines has some issue. Yorkies can have "knee joint problems " as they get older. The Yorkies have their own building as living quarters. And there is a whelping house for the mommas and babies. All heated, air-cond. and sat. TV ! Females come into heat about every 7-8 months. And no we do not breed the ladies every heat cycle. And mommas are retired usually when they are 7-8 years old. hope this helps so what do you all think about thre breeder and should I go with her?? |
Some reputable breeders kennel their Yorkies outside of the house and some may even breed til 8 years old but I personally would choose another breeder. Yorkies are people dogs and should be around them constantly. If they live in their own building, I doubt too much playing and interaction is going on. I could be wrong but I would keep looking. Oh and the part about the only genetic problems they've had are those that are common in the breed. It seems like they listed luxating patella as an example which is present in most lines but I just wonder if their dogs have more problems that are present in the breed... |
I would be concerned about that statement "The yorkies have their own buliding as living quarters and there is a whelping house for the Mommas and babies" ... Just how many dogs does she have? All yorkies? I would ask to see this facility. Be cautious, sounds like it could be a puppy mill. Most good breeders keep their babies in the house and they are treated like part of the family. I would never even consider having my babies in a "building out back". |

My rule of thumb is max 3 litters or less on any of my girls, many only had one litter, some had 2. Is there a website? Do you have her email address? Google the email address and often you will find out a lot about what she might be selling on the internet. |
I agree. :thumbup: You want to get a Yorkie puppy who is home raised, not raised outside in a kennel. He will be a much better socialized adult. your questions are all well and good but did the breeder have any of her own to you? Didn't she ask how it came to be that your yorkie was stolen? My application even asks have you had a dog before and if so what happened tp it? I don't mean to hurt you or anything but I think breeders are to slack when it comes to asking questions of the potential buyer. I would not buy from a breeeder that had nothing to ask me. I always ask my clients way more questions than they can ask me. good luck on your search for a new baby. |
