New overly protective mom Hello everyone! I'm new to YT and a fairly new mom of a beautiful yorkie baby boy named Disney. He is a year and 5 months and I have had him since he was 8 weeks old. Disney is by far the best baby I have had, not that i'm biased. :) But, I'm having a bit of an issue with his bringing the out doors in, ie leaves, grass, tiny sticks. The outdoors gets stuck in his hair and causes mats. I'm wondering if a trim would help with that? I brush him before we go to bed and again when we get up and place a new top knot every morning. He has never had his hair cut besides his bangs just so he doesn't run into things while he's playing. I live in Central Illinois and talked to my vet about groomers in the area. Out of the large selection there is, they only recommended 3. This has been a huge source of anxiety in our house because I don't want to drop him off and leave him. He has never been anywhere without me or his nana and papa (which he goes to for daycare while I'm at work). I'm afraid it will be an overly stressful experience for him. SO... long story short... anyone have any suggestions for me? |
I would call EACH of the three recommended groomers and ask them their policy about moms being allowed to stay or atleast watch from a distance. I know some Groomers have windows where worried moms can watch what's going on.. .... However ALOT of groomers prefer mom not to stick around...mostly because babies tend to act up ALOT with mom nearby... Anyways..I'd call and talk to all 3...see if one or more will work with you. If none of them will..then it's a decision you will have to make...Do you have any "yorkie" owner friends around that you could ask them about their experiences with groomers?? One place I would NOT take your baby to...not sure if this was a recommended place or not is Pet Smart...I have heard alot of BAD things from people about them... Good luck! |
LOL! Yogi is always getting things stuck in his hair. He'll be running and playing and then suddenly you'll see him walking like a cowboy just off his horse from a 12 hour ride.:p All bow-legged and up on his tippy-toes. He'll look over at me, "Momma! Somethings sticking me!" :D I'll go over and pull off some of the longest sticks, it's like a magic trick. "Yogi, how ever did you get this long stick all hidden in your hair?" "I dunno, :( just get it off please Momma." He'll be getting a puppy cut soon since our summers get so hot here. I'm very blessed to have a great groomer and she lets us worried moms stay and watch. She has her waiting room set up so that we can sit out of sight but watch via a mirror on the opposite wall. |
