Moving and need some advise!
 
My husband and I are moving and our year and a half yorkie has been whining and clinging to me like crazy. I know that it is because he knows something is going on and he is in a different house (staying at Mom and Dads until we move since our stuff is in transit). Before he was fine when I would leave him at home in his pen. Now he freaks out if I leave the room. I am worried that he is going to bark when I leave him after we move. Any advise how I can help him through this process without too much stress?

Just keep reassuring him that everything is ok. It'll just take a little time for him to settle in at the new place. I'd make sure that he had his bed, blankets, toys, bowls that he's familiar with. Also, maybe leave a tee-shirt that you've worn with him so that he has your scent with him. Once you get him moved, get a routine established like his old one as soon as possible. Also, at the new house,try leaving for just a minute and returning and giving a treat reward. Lengthen the time and it should help to remind him that you do come home.

Hi! Moving is always stressful. I hate moving! One of the easiest things to do when you do have to leave the new place would probably be to crate the dog. Its their little den and it makes them feel cozy. My yorkie is the same age as yours. We dont crate him anymore. But we are building a house right now and I will probably crate him with a t- shirt of mine and some of his familiar toys until he gets use to his new surroundings. Also, you wont have to worry that he is taking his stress out on your new place while you are gone. Think about how long it takes US to adjust to a new place! When you are home play with him. Treat him like a pup and go through verbal commands like sit, shake, etc. with treats. Show him that this new home is just as fun as the last. Good luck! He'll come around! ;)

He doesn't understand what is going on,he probably feels like you won't be comming back.


When I was in the hospital for almost two weeks in January,my family said they were really sad and just layed around.
the day I came home all of them rushed me and made the weirdest sounds, kissing and licking me for dear life.They missed me and thought I had abandoned them.They all followed me like my skin for a month.

So I would agree he is unsure of what is to come. Just spend as much time as you can petting him and reassuring him when you do see him that all is fine and he will pick up your energy and should calm down.

OH!!! Poor baby, he does not understand what is going on. He will be fine once you are settled in you new house.

when I moved last year I brought chester to the new place and let him sniff around, it was close by, on moving day I took him to my girlfriends house, and then when I was sorted of setttled his toys, food and bed then I picked him up and then had several days off before I had to go back to work. Try leaving for short periods and then come back. You can try the dap. dog appeasing pheoromne, it smells like a nursing mother only dogs can smell it, and leave something out that smells like you.
