New to site. Need advice! Hi everyone! Im new to this site! Its so exciting to see so many people as crazy about their yorkies as I am! My breeder recently contacted me and said that my yorkie's (Pasta) mom had another litter. My husband and I have been considering getting another yorkie. Pasta is now 1.5 years old and male. He is so well behaved and mellow that one of our conerns is that getting another dog could "change" him. Any thoughts? |
Hehehe, I think that I'd better keep my thoughts to myself because all that I'll do is talk you into getting another Yorkie :p |
Well I think you are right to be concerned. Because adding another dog to the mix will change the first one...for the better. :D I know there are instances that this doesn't work out, but I think that is the exception, not the rule. I rather adhere to the boy/girl mix being the best, but I know there are plenty on here that have 2 of the same sex that get a long fine. If you are pleased with Pasta and know this breeder to have healthy, well adjusted puppies, and afford the care of a 2nd one, then I say go for it. Of course all of that reasoning led us to get our 3rd, so just beware, it's harder to say no once you've opened that door to number 2. :p:rolleyes: |
I think it would work out fine!!! |
Sounds like your little guy is mild mannered enough that everything would work out just fine. I foster and mine do fine most of the time when a new one comes to stay with us. May take a few days but they usually end up best friends. Although, my little Harley sometimes really bonds with some of my fosters that when they leave he is so sad! |
I think Pasta would love having a furry friend. I have 3 and they love to play and roughhouse and then will all snuggle up together. They also shower me with love so they have the best of both. |
I think it depends on your yorkie's personality. I had try to get company for my trixie, but she ends up being bullied. It hasn't work out for her. My advice is, that you should have another dog in the house for a couple of days to see how yours will socialize having onother in his territory. Good luck |
Welcome to YT!! :wavey: I think 2 are wonderful! You may have an adjustment period - but I think they will become fantastic friends |

I have a two year old, Cash, and he is getting his new playmate in less than two weeks. I took a long time to finally decide to get another yorkie (2 years :p). I am still scared that he will change, but I have seen how much he loves having other dogs to play with. He is also more cuddly towards us when there are other dogs in the house (jealousy;)). Anyway, next Friday, June is coming home and I am sure they will be best friends very soon. :aimeeyork |
You could NEVER have just ONE!!!!!!!!!!!:D |
New puppy? They are such good company for each other, and, the 2nd baby will learn good manners from the first.....I say go get another baby!!!!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
