Pee under the Puddle Pads...argh! Why is there more pee under the puddle pad, than on it? I have Apple's puddle pads on the tile floor, but I'm constantly throwing them away, and cleaning the tile, because they are soaked underneath, not on top! Sometimes I think I ought to just let her wet on the tile floor, 'cause I'm still wiping up the pee pee, under...What'sup w/this? p.s...also, she's such a diva, that if there is one (maybe two) pees on the pad, she's not interested...is this the norm for these little toots? |
What kind of pads are you using?? It may be the pads themselves... We went through some of the pricey brands that macy just tinkled right through  We now put a a piece of vinyl under the whole area where her pad is, plus about 2 inches on each side... It helps if they leak, or if she misses  And yes, my macy wont use her pad again if there are more than 3 tinkles on it. She will use my floor instead... |

HI, Thor's puppy pads were doing that also, I SAW him once and he was peeing right on the edge of the pad, making it drain down under the pad. That may be what is happening to you also. |
Remy usually lifts his leg at this point, so having the pee pad laying flat on the floor did not work because he would partially hit the wall, or pee off the pad and it would go underneath. Now I fold the pee pad partially (4-6 inches) up the wall. Problem solved! When he lifts his leg it is impossible for him to miss the pad... I also buy adult (people) incontinence pads which are much larger than doggy pee pads |
Purina makes a doggie litter box that I would put the pads inside the box, this way, they have to step into the box to pee or poop and NOT on the edge of the pad. This also help them to realize not to do potty on carpet ;) |
Roxie will use her once. Sometimes not at all she likes to pee on the dang throw rug. That annoys me. I've had to put newspaper under the pad in case she goes too close the edge but the vinyl sounds much better! |
This happened to me all the time when we were using the disposable pads. I bought some washable ones from Home and never had this happen again. If it's too dirty they'll go NEXT to it though:laugh:  |
If you are going to use disposable pads, then the litter box idea sounds the best so that they step in and out when they go. Penny will sometimes go right on the edge of a pad on the floor and urine will be under the pad also. (We don't have a litter box because we are about to switch her to the Pet Loo instead.) We purchase the human bed pads at Sam's Wholesale. They are much cheaper than the dog pads and larger too. Penny will only use a pad 2 to 3 times depending on where the wet spots are. She has to have enough room on the pad to walk around to go or she will go next to the pad instead. This is why we can not get off day 0 on the YT potty log. I think we would have to have two litter pans if we were going to go that route. We are really hoping that the Pet Loo will enable her to go several times a day in the same spot. I will report how it goes a couple of weeks after we get it. |
Chloe Primrose likes to use the edge of the pad, sometimes she will have all 4 paws on the pad and hang her butt off the edge. I started putting newspaper under the pads and this soaks up the pee. I still have to clean the floor but at least its not puddled under the pad. She will only use it 2 times before I have to lay a clean pad. |
Buy the pee pad holder. It fastens the pad in place and the lil one has to step in to use it. Its worked miracle for me! Lola use to miss the pad 3 out of 5 times. I've used the pee pad holder for some time now and no more accidents :D and a lot less paper towels getting wasted. |
I now have a piece of cardboard, with a layer of newspaper on top and then her pad on top of that. Meka is little miss diva as well... and if she's peed a few times on her pad, she'd rather pee/poop on the floor next to it than on it. I change the padding daily and still have problems with her pee/pooping next to the pad :( |
You need to use the washable potty pads. They will help A LOT!! They are waterproof and MUCH more absorbent. I make them to sell. If you want to get any from me you can click on the link in my signature. |

I use the washable pee pads also. It is a lot cheaper than constantly buying disposal ones. |
sammy lifts his leg so high, and he is only 5 lbs!... we went through all of the above. now, i cut out a cardboard box so that there is just a bottom and a back about 6 inches high. i use the cheaper pee pads (they work better), and clip the pad to the back of the box. sammy now walks onto the box so he can pee on the upright part of the pad.... he used to miss A LOT... but since i tried this, no problems. we did try a litter box, but he wouldn't walk in it. i was thinking of trying the washable ones. now i definitely will! |
:( I bought one of the pee pad holders and Lilly refused to use it, wouldn't even go near it, she was scared to death. It was even all pink and girly. I ended up taking it back. I wish I knew what else I could use, I'm afraid if I try something else, she'll just stop using her pee pad again and be afraid of it. I have the same problem though... I have to mop my floor in that spot ALL THE TIME. I even use the Arm & Hammer pads from Target that are pretty pricey and it's still on the bottom. Not to mention her little dribbles she leaves on the outside of the pad. |
washable washable pads are the way to go. i was having a hard time with cleo pooping on her pads, but ever since i got the washable ones, she almost always uses it. it is in her crate and she will even go and find it to use if i have waited too long to take her outside (she goes outside when i am home). they were the best investment i have made so far for her! |

My Coco Argggg!! Love him to death but he doesn't get the concept that his pee comes out the back end !!! It is just way too much trouble for him to stand on the pad. He has to just barely place his front paws on it then he goes. What the heck??? |
I agree, maybe try the potty box with a pad inside. I think when I get my pup I am going to do the litter box training. |
I tried the potty box...didn't work. I even bought a large boot tray. The pad fit in there perfect...didn't work. Also my babies go into my downstairs bathroom and pee on the towel my son leaves outside of the shower. Grrrr. I had less trouble potty training 4 kids. lol |
