My DH called the city and apparently the paper made a mistake and the limit is three total, not per person like it was printed. She basically still told us it usually isn't an issue -- but that we could file a petition to get special zoning for $50.00 with consent from neighbors, ect -- but she didn't recommend doing it unless it became "necessary" so I'm taking that to mean as long as no one complains we should be ok. If someone does complain, we'll have to attempt to get the petition. I feel a little bit better knowing there's an option and I hope it never gets to where I need it. Apparently she'd had calls all day long over this, so I'm assuming many people are worried. |
we also live in a small suburb in ny and there is a dog limit in our town as well. every once in a while the dog control officer will do a 'dog census'. Once he went to my mom's house and she wasn't home, but when they knocked on the door he could hear her TWO dogs barking, but only had ONE licensed (she had just gotten the second dog). anyway he left her a dog census form in the door and wrote on it that he heard two dogs barking and only one was licensed, and that she had until a certain date to license the new dog before a fine was imposed. i really dont think they can take your dog away.... but these things definately do exist |

I think having your DH call the city hall for clarification is a great idea. It makes much more sense to calmly try to work this out rather than panicking and being afraid to open your door. |
I will not worry, I think what they are looking for is for backyards breeders etc;) |
If the paper made a mistake then they should print a correction. |
at least in Texas-when they do a door to door they have a general warrant which makes it legal. If you deny them access then they know you are guilty of something and believe me they will be back and not so nive about it:cool:! If they come in and all animals are current on shots and have vet records and there are no complaints from neighbors for noise ect. then they will usually leave you alone. They are after animals without vet care and watching for vicious breeds. I personally would not worry. I know the animal control here is okay with it because I was two over the limit and his attitude was he would rather see over the limit with vet care than having two or less uncared for. |
The limit where you live is four? Even in the suburbs, the limit where I'm from is 10 full grown! |
I'm pretty sure it's four cats & dogs max in SF city limits. |
