Mimi is getting spayed soon..nervous mommy
 

Mimi is getting spayed next week. I just wanted to know like what i should be doing after her surgery? Is she going to be in a lot of pain? DO I feed her still? Do I need to get the cone that goes over her neck and how long would she have to put it on for? Sorry for so much questions, first time getting my baby spayed..:scratchhe

Oh, most of us totally understand how you feel, I also was a nervous wreck before Mazee had her surgery. I almost cried when I had to drop her off! After her surgery she was pretty sore. The vet gave us pain meds but I only gaver her 1 think. She slept alot but still ate like normal, the main thing I think is to not let them jump, Mazee didn't even attempt get up on the couch or anything. she would just stand by the couch and we lifted her up-also just set her down, no jumping at all. Mazee wore a onesie the first night after her surgery, I wanted to make sure she didn't bother her incision. I cut out the back end so she could still pee with it on. After the first couple of days she never bothered her incision so I didn't have anything on her. Hopefully this helped! Let us know how Mimi is doing after her surgery-try not to worry too much, even tho we know it is impossible! :)

Cookie was just spayed last friday. I did shed a tear when i dropped her off. After the surgery she was groggy for the first two days. It is kinda hard trying to keep her confined in her crate to keep her from jumping. She is healing well ans she has worn a baby onesie from the first day. She weighs 4.7lbs and wears a newborn. She is back to her ole self after just 6 days. By next friday she will be able to take her onesie off. I do know how you are feeling as we are all nervous when we have to put our babies under anesthesia. the vet told me to call at 3pm to check on her. How do you ecpect me to wait till 3pm! Its 8 am....i called at 12 and she was out of surgery and resting....

im so scared when she goes under anesthesia!! ugh

I DO NOT look forward to getting Tobie neutered... I know I am going to be a nervous wreck too. I'm sure your baby will be fine but I understand that it's hard not to be nervous.

Baxter gets neutered in two weeks, so I understand your nervousness!! My rommate's dad is a vet, so he will be performing the surgery. That puts me a little more at ease. :cool:

::sigh:: hope everyone's spaying and neutering goes very well. I'm trying not to think of it but everytime I do i feel nauseous:(!

madison just got spayed on monday and at first i was soooo worried about her. mimi will probably be extremely tired when you bring her home. she'll just want to sleep... madison did she took extra long powernaps and would wake up to drink a little and stretch. our vet said not to give food for at least 2 hours after she got home and she did eat but just 1/2 the food she usually does. i didn't get a cone because it bothers me the way they look and i feel like they can't function normally with it on since its in the way. i used a baby onesie on her (preemie size) for the first few days and snipped a little slit just above where the snaps are for her tail. you put it on like you would have it on a baby and the snap part is like right at their little butt. not sure how much mimi weighs but madison is 4lbs and the preemie fit perfectly

the vet gave us pain meds.. rimadyl to be exact and i give her 1/4 of the tablet every day for the swelling. shes doing well now, i've been monitoring her without the onesie and she hasnt tried to lick it or anything so i'm going to keep it off so she can use the bathroom when she wants.

Awww, Mimi will be fine (easy for me to say). I was a nervous wreck when Hot Rod was neutered. I waited for the vets office to call me with an update and got really anxious and wound up calling them. Well, my cell phone somehow was on vibrate so I hadn't heard it. All went well and I was right there to pick him up when it was time. Good luck and hugs. She will do great. :)

I'm not looking forward to my girlies spay either. It's stressful!

my vet told me to give my puppy a little bit of food and water at a time b/c they are more likely to vomit after anesthesia. molly recovered pretty quickly (2-3 days). i kept her in her xpen a lot the first 2 days so she wouldn't wear herself out. she took a lot of naps!

I am sure they will give you a cone if they think Mimi will need one, the onesie, I just got at walmart.

Annie Grace was spayed about three weeks ago. We took her in at 8:30, they called about 12:00 and told us that everything had gone well and that we could pick her up between 2:30 and 4:00. We picked her up at 2:31 and took her home. Judie and I alternated laps till bedtime, then carried her upstairs and put her in our bed. Her feet didn't touch the floor till 12:00 the next day. The Vet said the stitches had to remain in for a week. It was a little inconvenient since we couldn't bathe her but not a big deal. I totally understand how you feel. I was terrified for my baby.

Abbey had her surgery the 17th..took her at 8am picked her up at 3p..she had a cone on but I took it off. Tried the oneies but she had accidents and it was a mess..so I bought 9 months t-shirts and put em on baackwards. she hasnt bpthered her stiches at all..first 24 hrs home she slept..within 2 days her active level back..thast the hard part keeping em calm!

oh I left my hubbys tshirt that he had worn to be placed in Vets crate.

Don't worry we have all been there! I had both of my girls spayed in Jan. they were a little groggy the first day. They were back to their old selves on day two. So the most difficult part was making sure that they didn't jump on the furniture.

Do you have a few days off to stay home with them?

Lexi just turned 6 mos and I will be seeing the vet in one week for heartworm testing. I will need to make her spay appointment. I am very nervous. How old are your babies. I just need to know whether to make the appointment by her 7 mo birthday or can I wait until 8 mo?

My bailey was just spayed this past friday. They kept her overnight due to her small weight, but when I picked her up on saturday the only thing they said was no jumping or any strenuous activity. She is better today and seems to be back to herself. She still isn't jumping up on anything but is more active. hope this helps. And btw, I did cry when I left the vet. :(

I did a YT search and found this thread from earlier "09. Great thread! Lots of good info. Zoey our 5+ foster rescue is getting spayed 9/21/09.Got the onesie tip from another YTer and we bought a couple premature size at Walmart. She a spitfire and loves to play with Zeke so that's going to be a big problem after a day or two. We've got a larger wire crate to confine her as much as possible for the first couple of days. All of rescue kids were already neutered/spayed when we adopted them. Any help is appreciated.

Maggie was in a some pain when she came home but as soon as we were given the okay to give her some pain meds, she settled right down. she was very good thru it. She was quiet for a couple of days. She peed right thru the onesize before I could get to her to open it up! I hadn't thought of the collar yet. lol. Good luck with your little one tomorrow. :)
