Do yoy really need a crate??????
 

Cant you just tie the pup next to his bed and toys when you dont want him running around. I think crates are so ugly and take up space. If i tie her would that be bad

I personally think tieing her up isn't a good idea but u can buy a gate and keep her in a room so she has space to run around that is what i do with my minnie plus she is pretty comfortable with the house now i bought her a crate she does not use it at all and i feel bad to hear her cry

This is the first time I've used a crate for one of my dogs. Missy really loves hers though. The door is rarely shut. It's just sitting inside her ex-pen, and it's more like her "den". I'll tell ya... it sure is handy if you have to take them to the vets or for surgery or something. They feel much more comfortable when they are kept in their crate rather than put in an unfamiliar cage or crate at the vet's. There are some really cute looking ones too. I'm thinking of upgrading Missy's since she uses it so much.

I don't have anything bookmarked no. I've just seen nice ones that other people have posted on here, and in the stores that I shop at in my area. I've never really browsed online sites for them before though.

I crate both of mine......Prissy, 7 year old poodle, and Jasmine, 13 week old yorkie. With my poodle that I had before, my vet suggested crating and it was the best advice that a vet ever gave me. Dogs like to have their own 'den' he told me and he has been right about all three of mine.

I only crate my girls at night, I tell them night night time, and they all hop into their crates... I get worried about them because if I don't crate them, they jump into bed with us, and I can't sleep thinking me or my other half will roll over on one of them :). During the day they have free reign though... If i do need to put them away for a while I will either put them in their crates, or into another room...

I made a cover for Puddin's crate. I usually leave the crate open with the door cover thrown over the top of the crate so she can go in and out at will. She takes her toys in there to play and she naps in there. It is her "cave."

They do take up space, but one of the things about having a dog (or any other pet) is that we sometimes have to make compromises...even sacrifices...for their well-being. Having a crate taking up space is one of those compromises, IMO.

I think you are missing the point of using a crate and that is for several reasons. First and most importantly most people use crate a a means to housebreak their pets. So tying your puppy or any dog up to contain them will not work, they will still be able to poop and pee all over where ever you tie them up at. You place them into the crate and the theory is that they will not use their house as a toilet. So you need to restrict their area to a small confined space taking them out repeatedly until they are fully housebroken. You also use a crate to limit their ability to freely roam when they are puppies and can get into all types of dangerous things just like a child. You would not leave a small child at home alone and you should not leave a puppy unattended because either know danger. Dogs have been know to chew through their leashes or even chew electric cord or get into things around the house that could harm them. So when you leave the house for school, work or whatever you will need a safe place to put your puppy while he is out of your site ie a crate or Xpen. Just like a child as they prove themselves they are allowed more responsibility and access to freedom while you are gone.

Furthermore, Yorkies are one of the hardest dogs to house train so you need to use diligence or you will end up with a dog that will poop and pee at will all over your house which I am sure will not be appreciated. A crate will really allow you the upper hand in house training a Yorkie.

By no means an I trying to be rude but a puppy is a HUGE responsibility and it sounds like you have never been a pet owner before. Maybe you should start much smaller and work your way up to a puppy.

Thor does not use his much, but it is an indepensible potty training tool.

i used the crate to housetrain charlie. now that he is housetrained, he only goes in there to sleep or when I can't watch him. His crate is big so he can move around in it. He does not mind his crate.

we never used a crate! ;) BUT, we have an xpen (& used this a lot when Avie was a baby!) we still use it for other things(like taking to the park, etc.) Gemma has a play pen that she used since she was a baby! :) we also have baby gates!! ;) so.. i don't think you necessarily have to have a crate.. but some type of pen or confined area is good to have when they are a puppy, potty training, & not trusted in the house when you can not watch them! ;)

if i were you, i would NOT tie up your baby.. God forbid something happen, like getting wrapped up in the leash!! :(:(

I don't think it's a good idea to tie a puppy up - it would be very easy for them to get tangled up or strangle themselves. I use a crate for Twinkle and she loves hers, it's also been great for housebreaking. I know what you mean about them taking up space (it took some major re-arranging to find a place for one at my house:rolleyes:) so maybe just use it until the puppy stage is over, and then take it down. xxx xxx

I have 4 and they all love their crates. All i have to say is....anybody wanna take a nap and they all 4 will run and get in the crates haha...they come and go as they please during the day but i do crate them at night. They also know what crate belongs to who...they know exactly what crate to get in haha
