I have a quection
 
I HAVE A THREE MONTH OLD YORKIE AND HE LOVES TO HUMP MY LEG.IS THAT NORMAL FOR A YOUNG PUPPY TO HUMP BEFORE HIS TIME PLEASE HELP ME I'M SO CONFUSED.:confused:

Yes...they even hump after they've been fixed!

Yes, I agree with Chachi, it's normal, but you should not allow it. This is a display of dominance, and while it's ok if they do this with another dog or a stuffed animal or pillow, they should never be allowed to hump a human. To stop the behavior, just push them away and say, "No." Repeat as necessary. Joey liked to hump a teddy bear, but about 1 month after he was neutered, he stopped this behavior. It's related to the hormone testosterone, and while the testicles make the bulk of testosterone, the adrenal glands make some too, and the amount varies greatly between dogs, but this is why some females also hump. The bottom line is your dog is telling you he is the pack leader, and you must inform him, that all humans are the pack leader, so no humping on humans.

Since he is doing this behavior , give him something he can hump besides your leg... do not let him hum humans. allow him to with a "special" stuff animal or pillow. Sometimes they will stop after being fixed, but not always. It is normal behavior .Just do not let them do it to people. :aimeeyork

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT give him anything to hump. It is not sexual behavior, it is dominant behavior, and although it is normal for them to do it, it is not necessary to allow them to continue. ICK!!! If you had a great dane would you allow him to hump the arm of your sofa?

Let him know that you are the packleader and everything in the house belongs to you and he is not allowed to hump it to show dominance.

I have 8 dogs, only one of them is neutered and no one does any humping unless I tell them they can.

It is bad behavior just like barking, chewing, biting, jumping, grapping your food, tearing up things etc and needs to be corrected just like any other bad behavior.


You tell them no,, and remove the object, and work on exercises that will reinforce your pack leader role.

NO ONE LIKES A DOG THAT HUMPS THINGS

I'm sorry!!!! I owe "mscat" an appology. I freaked out on her post and I should have been kinder and more tactful.

I don't want to ruin a good appology with a poor excuse, but i do want to explain myself.

I have had dogs all of my life, many of them m ales and have never had one that humped things. Then I had some friends that got a male toy poodle and they allowed it to hump a teddy bear. It made me very ucomfortable to be in the room with that going on. It would have totally turned me against male dogs had I not had male dogs.

I am a breeder and the number one reason that people do not want to buy little boys is because they think all males pee on things and all males hump things because they had a friend that had a male dog that did and therefore they think sll male dogs do.

So in defense of all male dogs everywhere, PLEASE do not think that this behavior has to be allowed, because it does not. And little boy dogs are getting a bad rap becaue some people allow their dogs to do it.


So again mscat, I am sorry to have freaked out over your post, but please don't tell people that this goes along with owning a male dog.

I thank everybody for your advice.he started to do it again and i told him no humping he looked at me like are you for real so he did it again and i told him the same words again and he just left my leg alone so is working.:)

That's great, I found all training works, if you are more persistent then they are. He will test you several times before he finally stops the behavior, don't get all emotional and upset when you say "No" a firm unemotional, "No" is all that's required.
