I'm not sure you could get a carrier to fit under the seat that would hold a six pound dog. They have to have room to turn around. But, if you are having a dog shipped to you, then Continental is the best and safest way to go. |

I have flown on United, US Airways, and American with my 2 yorkies. They all charge $100 each way. American was the only airline that actually checked my vet paperwork, etc., and confirmed that my boys were under six months and related (don't ask, weird policies for 2 dogs in one kennel). Anyway, I have no problems to report for these airlines. Delta is probably the same policy and has a hub in Atlanta, so you might check them out. Good luck! |

I have a service dog (in training) as well. I recently flew from Korea-USA-Korea with her and didn't have any problems. The flight attendants did tell me I had to keep her under the seat (which is not correct since she is a service dog). I flew on United. I had an ID for her, but I didnt' even need to take it out. The check-in people only cared about the paperwork (health cert and letter from my doctor). For anyone who has to fly international, stay away from Delta. They charge $550/ONE WAY! |
Check out the Traveling with Yorkies - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community - lots of great info & detailed reports about different airlines. I just flew Allegiant Air yesterday - 1st time ever someone not only asked me at the check in counter for a health certificate - but also made a photocopy of it! |
THis is all very good info. Good to know! |

That is who we flew to pick up Bra'Tac in Missouri. They were really nice. And for $69 he flew right next to us, not in the luggage compartment!!!:( |
Thanks all you guys!! Great info. Gives me a better idea where to start looking!! I have to go look at the link "yorkiesmiles" posted. I'll let everyone know how the whole deal goes! |
Woody and Bogie have flown a couple times. I believe we took Delta and NWA. We had a great experience in flight, the attendants an all legs (3 total) let us take then out of their carriers and hold them. I agree with some of the above replies, it probably just depends on the crew. Good luck and have a safe flight and a great trip! |
