does Deter work? My little Nugget will eat her own poop if we don't scoop it up the second it hits the ground. She doesn't eat Turbo or Bear's poop just her own. I've read some posts on Deter, does it actually work? I've never had a dog do this before. Read somewhere they outgrow this disgusting habit, anyone know at what age they outgrow it? Thanks for your help. |
Maximus did that but I never used Deter...I used pinapples and meat tnederizer..it helped but every once in a while I will catch him eyeing the poop..lol I have to scoop the pad up real quick~ Thank God the smell alerts me before he does...or he runs to whereever I am to collect a treat |
I'm not sure when they outgrow this, but I have used the deter before on one of my chihuahuas. It seemed to take a while to work, but only because I would forget to give it to him some days. Once I remembered to use it every day he stopped eating his poop in about the time the package said he would (2 weeks I think). |
Rudy was a poop eater. Never used the Deter. He did stop a little bit before he turned one. I have never had one do it before. |
How much pineapple? I'm dealing with a 2lb yorkie. Can you use pineapple alone or must it be with meat tenderizer? I'd prefer not to use meat tenderizer as that stuff is full of chemicals. |
Maximus was about 3lbs when I caught him doing it...what I did was buy the dole pinapple slices and cut it into 20 cubes..I would then give him about 2 cubes..I even used them as a "treat"...no you don't have to use with meat tenderizer..I just tried both |
I have never used this but I saw it at Dr fosters and Smith. Its a pill you give them and it keeps them from eating their poo. |
I have used Deter Lots of times with rescues. It has worked EVERY time. I usually give a bit more then the package says and then taper off once the habit is broken. You have to use it consistantly and full force until you are sure no more poop eating, then just cut back. |
Yes it works! Sammie was eating Gracie's poop. I gave her Deter and he stopped. |
Didn't for my critters. I now use ACCENT flavor enhancer..you know that MSG in Chinese food that gives us headaches . Forbid is potassium gluconate and Accent is Sodium gluconate and is cheaper. But, most dogs do grow out of that habit, but it grosses us parents out. Especially when they want to give us kisses. |
I have a little 4 1/2 month old that has that bad habit...it is so gross :( He's been doing so good about going out the doggy-door when he has to go. ( so proud.. :) ) Now when he comes back in he brings it back!!! Its so hard to act calm and not scare him he's the sweetest little guy. It is disgusting.. |
