Female Vs. Male Yorkie Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and I’m looking forward to hearing more about everyone's yorkie(s). I currently have a 2 year old yorkie "Jack" who is the apple of our eye! My husband and I call him our furry child lol. We would really like to get him a baby sister being that he is sometimes left alone for a few hours when we go to work, plus I think a companion would be great for him. He is the happiest dog and gets along wonderfully with people and other animals. The cutest thing to see is when his little face lights up when he plays with our neighbor’s silky yorkie. I guess we are a little hesitant about one getting jealous over the other if we did get another yorkie. What is your take on the relationship between female and male yorkies? Are they just as affectionate, loving and so on? Jack was a breeze to train and is just overall perfect for us. I've heard that female yorkies are much more stubborn and difficult. If anyone currently has a female and male yorkie please do not hesitate to tell me how they interact with one another and anything else you may want to share! Thanks for your help guys! |
:welcome4: to YT http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-vs-girls.html Males & males, & males & females should get along well. Neutered helps. |
Welcome! I have a male and a female and they get along well. They are not affectionate with each other but they are play buddies and they will aloso protect each other. They get in little tifts every now and then but they have never fought or been overly aggressive. If I had to do it over again I would have a male and a female together because I think its a good combination |
Males & Females I have 3 males and 2 females and the males were easily trained and picked up easy on learning potty & tricks. The females were both a little slow and very hard to potty train. I think they are just stubborn as females sometimes are. And yes I am a female and yes I am stubborn. LOL |
I have a male yorkie mix pup and a female toy poodle, she was 2 years old when we got Tucker and were nervous about how she would react because she is the queen bee in the house. :). Anyways she didnt take long to warm up to him and she is a happier dog having another little one to play w ith. Both are very loving to each other and she has had enough of him she is the typcial female and will let him no it. He usally backs off and does his own thing. Good luck with your decision!! |

I guess my point is that I believe terriers in general are willful. Some might be down right stubborn especially if it works for them. See my dog that begs for example :D. Some are smart and some not so much, and I don't think sex has much to do with it. Beth |
Mac is a very lovey, on your lap, has to be touching you little man. VERY well behaved.(most of the time) Understands English, Potty training a breeze! He is 2 1/2 yrs. When Maci blew into town she became the Queen Bee! She potties when and where she wants. She can be very lovey dovey ONLYwhen she wants to be. She does not like to be carried. Only understands some foreign language we havent figured out yet!...She is 7months...and the Princess.... Fighting over toys was an issue at first, but we have learned to keep all toys put up until play time... Mac was pretty jealous of Maci at first because it is real hard not to love on the baby...but we have figured it out and all has settled down and is good! They are both a blast to have! I love having a boy and girl... |
Thanks Everyone Thank you everyone for sharing your stories and suggestions. tiggerr36792 your article defiantly helped as well! Jack is defiantly a mellow little boy and is content with being in anyone’s arms and is very affectionate; but can get a little jealous when his daddy gives mommy kisses, so the part about male yorkies bonding more with women is noticeable lol. You described the male yorkie to the T! Thanks again everyone! :) |
hehe well bentley is more of a snuggler (i guess the typical male trait) but miss buffey was much easier to housebreak to wee wee pads. she caught on much quicker and i trust her to roam the house when i am not looking. bentley still has accidents all the time and he is only one month younger :p i got them both a few days apart and they are very close and have NEVER fought. but they both have super friendly personalities and have acclimated immediately (without jealousy) to the furkids brought in after them :) a boy and girl worked great for me :D |

I don't know about the male/femaile thing yet, i have 2 females and getting my male very soon. But I can say that i have always had my large and small dogs have companians. My 2 large dogs were adpoted since puppies together, they are 7 years old and still play like puppies, my 2 little dogs are farther apart in age but when one was about 2 years old we got the other and the older one immediately acted like a puppy all over again, they wrestle and play and are inseperable. It was truly beneficial for them all to have one another. I highly recommend they have a playmate. |
