metting place for older and new yorkie hi i am going to but a new yorkie on sunday, i already have a 5 year old yorkie, my question is should i take my 5 year old to the breeder where i am picking up the new yorkie, i thought this would be a good meeting place for them as i have heard that it should be somewhere neutral, not your home as this is the older dogs territory. any help appreciated thanks |
How is the 5 year old yorkie? I never take mine to neutral grounds. I'm the pack leader in this house, next in command(:D) is the 11 year old shih tzu. Anyway, when I bring a new one home, I put them on the floor and I sit right there with, I let all of them come and smell the new one, and then I leave them be, but, I stay close. I have NEVER once had a problem, infact, the baby(9mos) and the shih tzu play the most out of any of them, I think the 11 year old acts younger now than she did a couple years back. It's funny, because all 3 of the other inside dogs, know the little one is tiny and they're all very protective of her. When my mom came to visit back in January, her 6 year old morkie didn't like my pup getting in his face, so he showed his teeth, then chased her(he never would have bitten her, but, was trying to get her to leave him alone) and my shih tzu took off after my moms dog, she was ready to chew him up for messing with her baby sister.:) |
so he showed his teeth, then chased her That's too funny......... don't mess with my baby sis........:D |
How old is the puppy? I would not bring the 5 year old to the breeder. |

I would not take my current to the breeders. I'd keep them separated until you do your vet check. For health reasons. |
The breeder may not even allow you to bring the dog around her pups. I would introduce them in a park although I introduced mine at home and they did fine with it |

I think I could maybe see going to a park with a bigger dog, although, I never even did that when I brought my shepherd puppy home. I think dogs sense when you bring one home, that its going to be staying. I know it sounds kind of corny, but, I see the way mine act differently with new ones coming in, and ones that are coming to visit, like Moms dog, and when I watched my nephews dog. I have never once worried aobut any of my dogs ever biting a dog that comes to visit or comes to stay. Actually that is the way it is for my sisters and brothers dogs and moms. There's 22 dogs altogether between the 5 of us, and none of them would ever bite the others. They may show their teeth and chase the others away, but, for the most part, they smell each others butts and go their separate ways |
