Marie - I'm new, please read I am new here. I have been reading but i think today is the first time posted. I want your opinions. Marie said she has fibromyalgia. So do I. And I have handicap tag in my car. Dr. filled out the paperwork for me to get my SSD but I haven't done it. Along with the severe pain (you sometimes hurt everywhere even when you can't move) you are too tired to move, you have bad tummy problems, depression anxiety and so much more. My dog is certified as a service animal. He goes nearly everywhere I go. (Yorkie) Not only can he pick up objects that I drop, but he can bring me my medicine. As far as going out with me, besides those two things, he gets me out of very embarrasing situations. Irritable bowel can make you have to leave right then. Some people yak and yak or say they will go to the public restroom with you. (No thank you). I can give my dog a finger signal and he will whine until I leave - no more getting caught in that situation. Also, the depression, anxiety and panic attacks come out of nowhere. You can't predict when you are going to have to call your family to come to whatever store you are in - trapped with fear. But with service animal, he can calm me down, and again I can depend on him. Are you going to be upset with me now? I read some other people don't think a yorkie can do this, but mine does. |
A Yorkie can indeed do anything any other dog can do just on a smaller scale. So,anyone who says a Yorkie cannot do something was never owneD by one.I don't dare tell mine they are not Rotties..Heck, I don't dare tell them they are dogs. They think we are a bunch of a dogs who walk really funny on our back legs. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I too have my dogs trained as service animals and I try to educate businesses and people everyday about the benefits and laws for service animals. I have several members of my family who have disabilities and I think dogs are an amazing asset to anyone who cannot live life normally. Dogs are tremendously intuitive and so unconditional in their love. My dogs are worth the world to me and they make my life easier and certainly joy filed. I look forward to getting to know you and your furbabies here on Yorkie Talk. |
Welcome to YT! |
Welcome to YT. Your dog sounds very helpful to you & well trained. |
Welcome to YT. I also have the samethings wrong with me, Bobo was in training for service dog but, I have to have a knee replacement Thursday and had to put them off. He is doing so good i can't wait to get him trained. Sometimes those wall mart walls can get awfully close huh. I say this diease is stright from the devil. My dogs clam me down and i love them very much for that. It's nice to meet you. :) |
Welcome! How wonderful to hear of such a nicely trained dog. They can be so much more than ornamental play buddies given half a chance....and a lot of dedication. I look forward to hearing more about your guy and I'm wondering how you managed to avoid the picture sharks. They are usually hollering for pics the minute a new post hits! lol. uh oh, I think I hear the jaws theme... |
Thank you. Kindness 100 - good name for you. Thank the others too who are so sweet. It's so hard feeling like people are looking at you wierd. I felt that way even before. Are there people on here that sell things? I think I saw some messages where people talked about things they sold. |
Welcome to YT !!! :p I find the yorkies to very intelligent and trainable so why can't they be used as service dogs??? I think it is awesome he complaiments your needs. :D Sounds like he has picked up on some of your disablities and since they are loyal companions he wants to give something back. Sounds like you and your yorkie pal have come together for a reason... |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk. What a wonderful story! I just don't listen to anyone who says bad things about Yorkies (or any other breed, for that matter). They don't know, so they say stupid things. We know how smart and important out dogs are, so who cares what they say or think!?! SoCalYorkieLvr has her dogs trained as service dogs, and I can't think of a better job for them. Keep posting. I'd like to see a picture, but since I don't know how to post pics, far be it for me to even suggest anyone else do it! LOL |
People say stupid things sometimes, you have to weed through some bad information to get the sound stuff.. In my opinion, Yorkies can do just about anything if trained right! Oh by the way Welcome!! |
Bump for Marie cuz i don't think she saw it. :) |
billie's boy, I agreed that Yorkies and any breed are great for people with dissabilities. Yes I was dx with fibromyalgia and Chronic fatigue syndrome in 1998. I was aprroved for SS dissabilty in 2004 until i just coulndt work anymore. It took me 2 1/2 years to get approved. SO I was lucky. Having Gucci in my life has being so beneficial. She is not a service dog cause sadly I dont know what to go about it and I really dont have the energy to really spent a lot of time to train her. Even thou I havent really train her, she still helps me with my depression. Feel free to pm me if you will like to talk about fibro. I belong to fibro support group on MSN if you will like to join let me know. Im from Manhattan,NY, where in NY are you from? Thank you Kim for bumping the thread cause I missed it. |
