Need Some Advice Hi everyone. I got Milo from a breeder 6 weeks ago. He is 15 months old now and already neutered. I already crate trained him. I want to train him how to use the wee-wee pad when he is inside the house. The breeder never used the pads. I even put some of his urine on the wee-wee pad just to give him the idea but it never works. Any advice? Thanks in advance. |
I have a 13 month old who we adopted on Valentines day. He is almost completely trained on the washable potty pads. Whenever we get up, first thing, I take him to the pad and keep telling him to go Potty. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes. On the bright side though, the time he is going is getting quicker. Just whenever you see him doing the," I am sniffing out my new spot" just put him on and keep saying the adjective of your choice. It is going to take some time, but once you get that done, having to crate him will be obsolete. He can have a little more freedom. Best of luck! And by the way, Welcome to YT! |
He goes outside now? At 15 months it'll be a bit difficult to change that behavior. Two of mine are outdoor trained...the biewers are trained to pads. I can't break them of those...and wish I could. Opposite of your problem. You could try training him like puppies are trained to pads. Confine him in a small area or x pen...covered in pee pads. Eventually removing one pad at a time..until there is only one. If he is housebroken...he will "hold" it for as long as possible. My Ramsey will not go inside anywhere ever. I think she would burst first. Realize that by using pads...if he cocks his leg to pee...eventually he may also cock his leg to use that pad. Meaning he doesn't necessarily hit the pad...some people place a weighted bottle in the center as an aiming device. |
I only put Milo in his crate before we go to bed at night. When I get up in the morning, I open the crate and he runs to the backyard sliding door and wait for me to open it and runs outside to do #1 and #2 and that's every morning. I leave the door open for him if he needs to go next time but he doesn't get the idea yet. He will relieve himself inside the house instead. It's a good thing that he squats when he pee. He doesn't squirt all over the place :D |
