My Maggie's Sick Our sweet Maggie that we just got on Saturday is having to stay at the vet. She checked out fine Monday although she wasn't eating that well, but we chalked it up to moving to a new home. The vet suggested adding some baby food chicken to her food so I did and she ate that afternoon. Then she started spitting up her water and stuff the next day. She wouldn't eat and every time she drank, she would spit up. So, Wednesday a.m. I took her back to the vet. Although she had a fecal on Monday and nothing showed up, by Wednesday, coccidia (sp.?), a parasite, was showing. They said she most likely had it for a while and it really tears up the g.i. tract and stuff and it was a good thing I brought her on in. She was starting to ge a little dehydrated so they were going to give her fluids under the skin and get some glucose in her before she became hypoglocymic. But, they thought she would be ok. So, this a.m. when I checked on her, they said she seemed to be worse. They checked her for parvo, which was negative, thank God!, but they were going to try to get an I.V. in her tiny leg. She is 2.6lb - she had lost 2oz since Monday when she was 2.8. Anyway, now they are saying she can really go either way. My little girl and I are going to go see her shortly. This is just horrible. Please send prayers and good thoughts her way. We feel in love with her immediately. |
Oh no! I'm terribly sorry you're having to go through this. I know how much you love Maggie and were happy to have her as part of your family. Archie and I will be praying for you. Tiny yorkies tend to have health problems but I hope that Maggie pulls through. Did you notice anything weird when you first got her on Saturday, or did pop up all of a sudden? If it's something in her G.I. tract, I wonder if the person you got her from would have noticed it. |
I'm so sorry you are going through this. What a way to start off a new relationship with your pup! I'll be thinking of ya'll and watching for better news. |
Sorry to hear your baby's sick. Prayers from me and puppy kisses from Bo! ;) |
We are so sorry to hear little Maggie is sick! I totally understand how heartsick you must be ... we lost our heart to Toto five minutes after we first saw her! Know that we will be praying for her recovery ... puppy kisses from Toto! |
Poor little Maggie...coccidiosis is so hard on the tummy of a puppy. Hopefully she is on Albon, it will just take some time to help her. I am sorry she has had it for a while :( , it usually shows up in a puppy several weeks after they are weaned from mom, the mothers immune system keeps the baby ok while they are being nursed so often it doesn't show up till after the puppy is with it's new mom..........Gracie had it at 8 weeks and with the Albon for several weeks, and LOTS of boiled chicken and white rice she was fine.........gracie did not get to the vomiting stage. ..I was fortunate to get her to the vet at the time it was just mucousy runny stool. Our prayers are with you and Maggie, if they can get her to keep in fluid, I'm sure she will be fine soon......... |
I am sorry to read about your Maggie and hope that she will get better soon. I can completely understand the "love at first sight" and please keep us posted daily on her progress. Schatzie sends paw hugs to Maggie :p |
Sooooooooooo sorry your baby is so sick so soon. I went through the same thing twice in the past year. It is discouraging to have to deal with illness in one so small! I got my new little girl last Friday (2-4-05) and literally held my breath for days waiting for something bad to happen.....She too is very tiny ..................... 1 pound 3 ounces and 3 months old. We will be praying for you and her both.....The vet is doing the right thing keeping her there so she can be monitored closely!!! Keep us posted....we want to know how she does! |
So very sorry to hear about Maggie! We will be praying for her speedy recovery. Oscar had coccidiocis at 8 weeks. My vet said on a scale of 1 to 4, his was a 2. 1cc of Albon for 14 days got rid of it. I noticed a change in his stool and got him to the vet pronto. He was just a little over a pound at that time. Once he got over that, he took off growing and has not let up. Hugs and kisses to Maggie from Oscar...puppy angels all around! |
