When can I take Tobie to the groomer? How old should puppies be before they go to a groomer. I really somewhere that's its best to wait until after 6 months when they have all their shots?? He's really going to need a haircut soon and if I attempt it, it will look horrible. lol. TIA! |
I took mine in when they were very young, the groomer pet them on the table and handled them as they would while grooming. By the time they went for real they were used to the groomer, being handled and the sounds and smells. |
6 months is good... I understand what you are saying...My 4 1/2 month old really needs ears, paws and bottom trimmed lol...And, I've also heard they need to have their shots, before going...I have a friend that has yorkies, and grooms her own, so I'll take Apple there, if she'll do her...I really didn't want to get that kennel cough shot (bortella, I think it's called), but I think you need to have that one, before you take them to a public facility...Also, rabies, and I'm not doing that one, 'till Apple is 6 months old...She has had all her puppy shots, and I'm glad that she didn't have any reactions...All that stuff makes me nuts...They're so small to be having any kind of stuff injected into them, but they need to have it to survive in this tainted world of disease...Mercy, that sounded so negative lolol...But I'm one of those ppl that doesn't believe in meds and stuff, so I just accept these durn shots as necessary evils.... My groomer won't take puppies until they have had all their shots. |
I wish I knew someone who could do it. I have heard so many horror stories about groomers it makes me a little nervous. It never made me this nervous with my cocker spaniel but I think thats because Tobie is so small I am more protective over him. |
My groomer wont take pups until all shots are given and they must be current. I groom my dogs ears. Its very easy... |
I don't know of any professional groomers who will take a dog without the rabies shot which is the last series they get. I have gotten good with the scissors and can trim the ears, feet, and bottom. I trim my older girl in between grooming so I have that down. My youngest has her shots but I hate to take her because she will not sit still to be groomed. I am worried she will come back with an injury from squirming. I have been getting the vet to do nails because that is one thing I do not like to do. Since she will not allow me to use the grinder, I am going to bite the bullet soon. It is scary to turn them over to someone and leave them for the first time. :( |
Well, then it looks like Tobie is just going to have to be a little messy for awhile. lol. After things I've read I really don't want to get his rabies shot until at least 6 months |
The groomer I took Jackson to didn't ask for papers or anything. He was 4 1/2 months old. But it's a really tiny place with no other dogs. One dog at a time. |
Tucker was groomed at 41/2 months byn a mobile groomer. She connected her equiped SUV to our power, and groomed him in front of our house. She did a beautiful job. She just happens to be the president of the Professional Groomers of Tennessee. We keep a condo there, and go about once a month.Sher invited me to stay and watch her groom, but I chose not to. I trusted her. She doesn't use just a collar, but puts another belt or something around the hips. It doesn't put as much strain on the neck. I really lucked out. She's a bit pricey---$65. But I'[ll use her again whenever his grooming needs coincide with out trips to Tn. I'm just terrified of groomers. I've heard so many horror stories. Tucker's Mom |
for those of us who choose to use a groomer. A good one is worth their weight in gold! I am blessed with a good one. I take my girls in, they go into the same crate, and are in and out in 2-2 1/2 hours. |
They shouldn't be in an atmosphere like that with other dogs until two weeks after their last pup shots. This really doesn't include rabies but I could understand a groomer insisting on it. |
