I get asked that all of the time, but i dont always answer. I usually ask back "why do you want to know"...depends on what mood im in and what vibe im getting if i provide an answer. My mom about fell over, but i reminded her that my dogs are not a purse or a pair of shoes that will sit in a closet or wear out in six months..how much doesnt matter and what matters is getting a healthy/quality family pet. You also get what you pay for!!!! People blow more on trips to Vegas and have nothing to show for it but a wish that they didnt spend it!!! If I earn it, I have the right to spend it on whatever I chose :). I get tired of explaining it because someone blabbed about how much I spent.... The only people who are truly understanding of the cost--are the ones who love dogs. So--advice would be not to tell those who dont love dogs. |
I just say"you tell me how much would you pay for something that gives you so much joy in your life and and loves you with all of thier heart as much as you love them with yours! People can't say much????????????????? |
I have been asked that a few times but by friends or family not complete strangers. I simply say "You can put a price on love" but then I tell them IF serious about adding a Yorkie to their family, that it all depends on age, size, breeder etc. My mother who is a police officer has been wanting a Yorkie as well...and I am looking into helping her adopt a spayed older female being as though she isnt home enough for a young puppy. The people who have adopted Miley's mom is paying $450.00 for her but she is being spayed before going and all vetting is taken care of before she leaves. So depends on what a person is looking for...thats what I say. If youre wanting a teeny tiny champion bred Yorkie youre obviously going to pay more than a spayed 7 yr old adult pet quality Yorkie. :) I try to inform the person as much as I can if they are interested in adding a Yorkie to their family but if they are just being nosey I say "Not nearly as much as she is worth" or "You dont buy your children...you are blessed with them" |

I'd just say she's a lot more than your shoes ! LOL ;) |
I usually answer politely. Then I change subject and bad mouth about pet store puppies!!! REMEMBER. Those people might actually be looking for a yorkie. So why not use the occasion to educate them . ;) |

I just say "Enough!" LOL "How much were they?" "Enough!" I don't mind the question too much, usually it comes from someone who 'thinks' they are interested in buying a yorkie. If they hear the price they usually will say "I would never pay that for a dog!", someone like that does not need to own one then bc vet bills on these guys can easily in one year be more than the cost of the dog. My boys were 'cheap' at $700 each. |
i am weak!!!! you guys gave me such good advice on handling this rude question, and i still messed it up when i was out with milu the other day. someone asked me how much milu cost, how much she weighs, how old she was, and where i got her, and i told her everything, even though i was very irritated with her question, especially the price one... and then another person asked me about the $ question, i just ignored the question....i just repeated her question like i was really confused, and then didn't answer the question. i am such a retard! baby steps, i need to review this thread to see how to respond to the question again so i don't mess it up again, because i really hate the $ question!!!!! |
I haven't been really asked point blank how much she was, some people make comments like " oh those breeds are expensive " or something along those lines, if they ask WHERE I bought her I just say she's a rescue from the States. They always get so curious then and "feel" bad for her but say oh you are so good for giving her a home and blah blah. I get people who ask about her nose and then when I start talking about that they say oh you must of spent thousands to fix it  I just smile and say our vet was very helpful! |
Rocco doesn't go out with us in public so I have not been asked that by strangers and friends or family that have asked have bought expensive dogs so they don't seem shocked and it doesn't bother me at all to tell them what I paid. I guess if someone was to ask outside of the family I would most likely mess with them. It is fun. |
I have some nosey people where I work. When they ask I reply "enough". |
I answer truthfully--"She was a gift!" Which she was & I am so thankful! |
I have not been ask that yet. So I'm not sure how I'll answer. |
:) I just say not near what s/he is worth Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
I've had a few people ask how much Riley costs and he isnt even home yet lol. I just tell them that yorkies can range anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars. If they want me to be more specific I just tell them i got him from a friend of a friend as a gift.:):) |
I say they could have charged me double and I'd still think she was worth every penny and walk away. |
Some people make the general comment that yorkies are expensive. Others asked how much? and I tell them. I get the crazy stares and the rude comments, but I am a very straight foward person and will not hesistant to tell a person that it's my money and I do what I damn well please with it and why should it matter to you it's not like you contributed to it. |
I think it would depend on who it is, If Im at a dog park or if the converstation goes like I have always loved yorkies and wanted one , blah blah and they inquire I tell them honestly , I dont see why I wouldnt be truthful but if it were just someone being nosey and stuff then I say alot but worth every penny... |
I'm already getting this question. Mostly family and friends that I'm showing her picture to. And well I am a Pure Romance consultant so I have been telling them "I had to sell lots of Toys to get her" :D they usually don't ask anything else. Marcy |
Besides my husband and a few friends who already have Yorkies or other dogs and know how much Yorkies cost, I tell strangers she was a gift and I really don't know how much she was. That usually stops them from asking any more questions. :D |

I think when you have paid quite a bit for yours it can become a bit uncomfortable to disclose that amount to people. It's hard to tell whether they are asking because of status or because they are thinking about getting one. In some ways it's like having someone ask you how much money you make. You can always say what I say "There is no way to estimate the cost of my Tater considering the amount of designer shoes, sunglasses, and cell phones he has eaten". That dog is priceless! |

Love your reply! So far I have not had anybody ask me other than family & friends. But I don't think a stranger should ask, its none of their business. |
