Mia is getting her shots..... anything I should know? My baby is going Monday morning for her second set of shots. She had her first set while with her breeder and I'm nervous. I know that she shouldn't get the Lepto shot and told the vet I do not wish it anywhere near her and he laughed and said he would never do that, (although looking at her medical record I see the previous vet gave it to her in her first shot cocktail????? Shouldn't the breeder know that???) but is there anything else I should know or look for? She got a lump on her shoulder last time that took about a week to go away, will that happen again or was that maybe the Lepto? Is there anyway I can make this a better experience for her? What do you guys do for your babies on shot day? Not looking forward to seeing my Mia get a needle  |
Just watch for a reaction to the shots. If it happens it is usually within a 1/2 hr of the shot. My Jewels was always sore after her puuppy shots and didnt want to be held. |
Alex is 11 weeks and just got his 2nd round of shots -- the breeder gave him the first one and he also had a knot this time he didn't and did great. when we got home I sat in the recliner with him while he slept so I could watch him. After his little nap he was off playing with the kids it never bother him. Hugs, |
Never do more than one injection per visit.. The vaccine should only have one antigen in it.. No multivalent vaccines, too many unnecessary antigens in them and too many given at one time, it stresses and weakens the immune system.. Personally I like Dr. Pitcairn's schedule: Canine Vaccines and Vaccination | Dog Vaccination Schedule This is one of many helpful articles you will find if you research vaccines: Vaccinating Dogs: What Your Vet Hasn't Told You Good luck ..... |

This serovar(IH) is in the vaccine that is given out. What most people do not know, is that cats can have lepto and not show any signs and therefore be carriers as well as the racoons, mice, foxes etc. So if you have any of these in your area, all could be carriers. According to the the latest AVMA journals, lepto can be transmitted through the dew on infected grass. It is a hard decision to make for your little ones. I think research through the AVMA journals, as well as knowledge pertaining to the particular bacterial infectious agents effecting your area is your best defense. As for your breeder, maybe she was aware of a particular infectious serovar in her area. Talk to her, especially if she lives near you. Best of luck |
Riot got his shots the other day, his last ones before rabies in 4 weeks, and he was just super tired for the rest of the day and the day after. I almost called the vet the next afternoon, but he started perking up and by that night he was running around his usual self again. Although they took him in the back and left me in the exam room alone when he got the shots. This worried me until she told me she wanted someone to help hold him since he was so excited and wiggly and they didn't want it to be me so that he wouldn't be 'mad' at me after, so that I would be a sigh of comfort or something. Strange I thought but he is just fine now. |
Zeus was so sore after his second set of shots that we couldn't even pick him up. He cried for two days when we touched him. It was awful! About an hour before his third set of shots I gave him about a quarter of a tablet of benadryl. And another a few hours or so after. He was still slightly sore but it made a big difference. I will be thinking of Mia on Monday. |
