Dew claws on the back paws??? Someone on here the other day said there are dew claws on the back paws. I don't see them. Where??? |
Maybe they were removed on your dog? Thor's tail is docked, but he still has all of his dew claws. I'm not sure why, but it's not a big deal. Just another nail to clip. |
I know they weren't removed. He had a long tail and dew claws on the front. I know the lady that didn't want the puppy (accident) didn't do it. She wouldn't even know how. Even my other two which I paid alot for don't have them on the back but have their tails docked and they have their dew claws on the front. I'm really puzzled. I don't feel them at all. |
I have one who still has dews. She has them on the back too. Does anyone reccomend having them done at 5-6 months? The vet said he would do it. I just worry about having them done so late. |
It's very rare that yorkies are born with dew claws on their back paws, but it does happen. "Most" breeders have the front dew claws removed at about 3 days of age at the same time their tails are docked. |

Talk to your vet, if he thinks it is fine at that age, have them removed at the same time she's spayed. |
Totally off-topic, but I've always wondered what the extra mini-pads halfway up Nikko's back legs are for. What's the point, lol? Lauren & Nikko |
Mine has one on One back leg |
Bogey who is from a shelter and had very dangley dew claws on all four legs. The nail on his back paws was very hard to trim and the groomer even mentioned to me that it was very lose and to make sure we kept it very short. He is about 1.5 when we got him from the shelter and when I had he neutered I also had his dew claws removed. Doodlebug who is from a puppymill rescue also had dew claws only on his front paws and they were removed when he was neutered too. They both were neutered together on the same day at the same time. I was worried about Bogey's more so than Doodlebug but decided to have them both done to prevent any future accidents. They each had 2 stitches on each paw and totally left them alone. It is a personal decision I think but I am glad that I don't have to worry about it causing a problem in the future. I don't think it is a big deal to keep them if they were not removed as long as they are not catching on things but it is painful if they are dangley and do catch. |
Some have back ones but most don't. Always check for them when the front ones are removed. |
My princess has had two litters. They all had dew claws on front and back. My vet said sometimes they have them on the back and sometimes they dont. |
