Question about home grooming Hi all! For those of you who do home grooming... how do you keep your babies still? I am terrified of cutting Violet. Especially when the scissors are around her face. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks! |

I would hold Jabot's snout loosely with my thumb and forefinger and she wouldn't move. If she did, I would stop and give her love so she wouldn't start stressing out. I never used anything around her neck like they do at the groomers. She eventually got comfortable with me grooming her that she would just lay down and relax. |
I use blunt end scissors to avoid accidents. I think pups are, initially, curious about the scissors. Let them get used to the scissors before you use them. Spend a couple of days on this or however long it takes. You can let them sniff , etc. the scissors. You can put them near their face, but don't trim. Wait until they are tired & in a relaxed mode before trimming. |
I have them up on a grooming table but do not use anything around them. I have it on my bathroo counter so they can't esacpe. I use blunt scissors on their faces and hold them eith by the top knot or mustache to make sure they don't move when I am using the scissors. They do get use to it after awhile. |
I always brush molly when she is getting sleepy, so she is used to being groomed half asleep! Then i do the cutting when she is fast asleep..she usually half wakes up, but is happy to let me continue...most of the time! I can only cut her hair with scissors though, as she is scared of the electric clippers. |
Personal Groomer for 3 Yorkies I am the Personal Groomer for my 3 Yorkies, I do all 3 of them at the same time like an Assembly Line. I have a Round grooming Table that turns around, I set it on top of my Dryer and right next to it on the Washing Machine, I have a Pink Couch. I put Artie on the Grooming Table and Abigayle & Pom Pom on the Pink Couch while I'm Grooming them I always make sure they are relaxed and in a calm mood before I do anything. I do everything from Brushing their Teeth, wash their Eyes out w/a warm washcloth etc. on a Daily Basis. You have to Train them to get used to being handled, whether it is by you or a Professional Groomer. |
For those with grooming tables, does the table have the lead/collar to hold their head up? |

My old vet turned me onto these little trimmers. They are like the big ones,but only about 3 inches long.The part that actually does the trimming is only about 3/4 inch Iong.I can do their eyes and ears without fear of cutting them. |
I hold their hair under their chin or their topknot depending on what I am doing. I put my hand under both of their front legs and lift them when I am doing their belling and hind legs-it's easier for me to see. |
