Scary thing happend today! my sweet little toby is 5 months at 2.6 lbs, he was eating this morning and began to gagging and acting like something was stuck in his throat, so i grabbed him up and me and my husband both kept trying to get him to cough it up but he couldnt , we tried to get him to drink some water and he wouldnt , all of a sudden he threw up and just started running arond crazy still gagging , i started freakin out, we jumped in the car and the vet i use is about 10 mins from my house but there is one closer so we decided to just go to it since it was closer , because i was terrified he was going to choke to death, my husband let me out at the door and i ran in telling them my dog was chocking, that he had something stuck in his throat and i needed someone to look at him, and the girl at the desk said have you ever been here before, i said no but can i please just get someone to look at him then i will fill out the paper work, she said well i dont even know if anyone is here i think our vets are at lunch, at this point im freaking out , thinking by the time you get me someone i could be at my normal vet. she said hold on one second let me go see if anyone is here. trying hard to calm down i said ok . in a few mins she returns and said the vet said if you will leave him, he will look at him when he gets done with lunch, i said WHAT! im not leaving him , my dog is choking on something and ran out the door, i was angry how in the world does someone go into a vet with a dog that is choking on something and someone tell me to leave him and they will look at him when they get through with their lunch, he could be dead by then, so my husband just starts speeding towards our normal vet, which i should have done in the first place i guess, i was just trying to get somewhere fast. on the way there he calms down a little bit, then throws up again all in my lap. we get to the vet and they rush him back and sure enough he has a piece of food stuck in his throat. they said that his tonsils are really red and swollen and he has a bad sinus infection , thats probally why he had a hard time swallowing the food. so we are on a antibiotic and canned dog food for a few days but other than that , thankfully my lil man is ok. i just wanted to share with yall and vent my frustrations out about that vet. who if i had been in my right mind i would have blessed him out! needless to say i will never go back there. im just glad my baby is ok. |
wow that is scarey! im glad your baby is otay though! being that i worked at 3 vet hospitals, i cannot believe they wouldnt just put you in a room, and then get your info later!? good think your baby is otay though!!!!! |
Wow, that's scary! I'm glad Toby is okay now! Can't believe that other vet! You should feel very glad for having the vet you do. |
no they wouldnt even look at him until the vet got done with his lunch, they just wanted me to leave him with them. |

that is crazy! i would sue them!!!!!!!! |
Nuts! What kind of a vet wouldn't stop eating their lunch to help with an emergency? Your baby could have died! I think that I'd have to say something to that other vet. Thank God your baby is OK. That must've been so scarey! |
Im speechless/shocked all I can say is I am glad he is doing better though. |
So glad to hear your baby is ok now! as far as that other vet! OMG! they should be shut down! |
:eek::eek::eek: I'm am seriously shocked speachless!!!!! I just don't understand that at all......sounds like the people in CA who got stopped speeding to get their choking dog to the vet, and the police officer kept them there extra long and let the dog die! I just can't believe people..... :( (I'm very glad that your baby is ok, though!!! So glad your "story" had a good ending!!!) |
OMGosh.....this really ruffles my feathers....what vet (if he is a good vet, would take eating his lunch over possibly saving an animals life) ?????? I know I love my vet as he has been my vet for over 20 years and I would totally trust him with any of my animals lives....but he is about 20 mins away from my house and I do have a clinic just up the street which is about 4 min away.....I think I will make a visit to them and see just how they would handle a situation like this...should the need ever arise...sooooooooo sorry this had to happen to you, but glad that your lil one is alright |
Wow...I was even getting anxious near the end of your post awaiting the outcome. I can only imagine being in that situation! I just assumed that vets took oaths like people doctors do. This sounds like a classic case of someone who doesn't appreciate the seriousness of their profession. Honestly, I would hate to know that anyone I dealt with took life so flippantly. I'm so glad this turned out with a good result for you. Weren't you very lucky to have chosen the better vet for day-to-day care of your Yorkie? Sounds like the other vet needs a large sign out front...."Don't stop here...we don't do emergencies!" |
I am shocked and appalled about what happened to you with that vet. I am so glad your little one is doing better! |
1 Attachment(s) thanks for all the responses , its nice to know people do care. toby is feeling lots better today, doesnt like to take his medicine , but i am just thankful that he is here with us today! here is a pic of my sweet little Toby! |
Oh, you poor thing! I'm so glad that Toby's doing better. What a terrible thing to go through. There has to be someone that you can turn this vet into for such unthinkable acts of laziness (or should I say selfishness). What a horrible person to act that way. Maybe try starting with your local ASPCA or PETA? So sorry they were so rude!!! You made a wise decission to run out and go to your vet. Hugs to Toby...feel better soon little man! |
Oh my God...Toby is adorable. I'm glad he is OK. |
