Evil looking dog....... Why is the picture in the Yorkietalk logo such an evil looking dog ? There are such beautiful yorkie's all over this site, I dont understand why this picture is used as a logo. Those eyes look really evil. |
Thats the owner and admin of the sites dog yoda. |
Dog is a cutie but I agree- they could use a much better photo without the green eyes and such. |
I think its one of those camera/eye/flash problems - I have it all of the time - mostly with my larger dog - I'm sure her little one doesn't really look like that - or that her eyes don't ....I usually put my photos into i-photo and take out the weird eye flash thing..... |
Sorry Admin, I didn't mean to be rude about your dog, its just the photo. Those eyes really stare at me. |
1 Attachment(s) You know the little green light that is under the username? (See picture). Attachment 269251 If it lights up green, this tells us the user is online. If blue, the user is offline. I think Yoda's picture just tells us he's online all the time! :D By the way, most Yorkies with silky coats show up with green eyes when a flash is used. Some cameras reduce this effect, and you can eliminate it if additional room lighting or spotlights are used. However, many of us have grown to love the look. |
Funny, I was wondering the same thing. Very cute dog... but creepy green eyes. I didn't realize it was a picture of a real dog. Some of my photos come out the same way, it just depends on the angle I think. |
Yoda??? From Star Wars? |
Aw, it's just a flash in the eyes. It happens to the best of dogs! I think he's a cutie. Thor has an extremely silky coat and his eyes can look orange or green in the flash. I agree it just depends on the angle of the camera. It probably wouldn't be too hard to photoshop the eyes. :) |
I thought the same thing when I joined. lol. I'm sure it's an adorable dog but the way the picture is cropped... it just looks like a head with spooky glowing eyes. lol |
We love you Yoda, green eyes and all!!! Sometimes if you try to take the color out of the eyes, the picture actually looks worse. |
OMG what a rude thread:eek: you are crazy to post that!! thats SO insulting. I think Yoda looks like a little doll:aimeeyork |
I've seen Yodas pictures and he's so cute. It's just the camera flash that makes his eyes appear green...that happens when I take pictures of my Chloe sometimes too.... |

It's all in individual perceptions. Since I know about the green eye reflection = silky coat, I don't see those little green eyes as scary at all. I think of it as a BIG positive. I would guess that Yoda has a nice silky coat. It has been said that if your dog's eyes reflect light as green, the coat is silky. If they reflect light as red, they have a cotton coat. This proved true for my two and many, many members have reported the same. Puppies reflect as blue for several weeks. |

But I don't care if it was Admin's baby or not, you just don't post things like that,in my opinion :( I would be so hurt if that was my dog. |
I don't think the op meant to insult anybody. I don't think she thought it was a real dog. Actually, i never really payed any attention to the green eyes until it was brought up. Everytime i came on YT, i always thought...that little yorkie is sooo cute! |

I think this turned into a good info thread .I never heard of this before. |
I find the eye shine colour thing interesting as well - Twinkle's eyes shine a kind of orangey green, if that makes sense.....is it possible to have a coat that is a combination of silky and cottony? She doesn't really matt, but its not that beautiful silken hair that I've seen before. It's kind of soft, like rabbit fur, with a satiny sheen. I never realised the pic at the top was Yoda - he's cute:) xxx |

Honestly, they could have choose a little better picture, lol. I think the dogs cute but I feel like there's so many professional Yorkie pictures you can find on Google that would suit a forum better. And the majority of people first signing up for this site probably had NO idea silky yorkies have green eyes and cottony have orange. I didn't even know that, lol. My dogs picture never really have any discolored eyes, maybe it's my camera? I have a really good camera. On my cell phone though, they do have creepy eyes. |

Here's an interesting article on eye shine. Quote:

Hm. That certainly seems like a comprehensive explanation of eye color in the flash, but it doesn't address the fact that yorkie eyes can look green OR orange in the flash. This is not just Thor, I've seen other people post that their yorkie's eye color looks different in different pictures. Thor's eyes do have a greenish cast to them - on very enlarged pictures with a flash, I can see that they are a deep brownish-green. However, he can definitely have "red eye" or "green eye" in the flash. |

And: "The reddish color that you see in human eyes is the reflection of the blood vessels in the back of the eye because the tapetum is NOT colored. This is the same in the "red eye" of the Yorkie." I think the orange would come from a "gold" cast to the coat mixed in with the red of the blood vessels. Our camera has one of those double flashes, and if Joey doesn't move between the first and second flash, the eye shine isn't noticeable. Also, if I use additional lighting, spotlights, for example, I don't get the bright green, but more of a deeper green, or brown. The eye shine is caused from a reflection of the flash. |
Sorry, Nancy, I don't think I understand what you mean. If you look at my avatar, you'll see that Thor has an extremely silvery body. He has much less bronze than the average yorkie. By the article's standards, that should mean his eyes would flash green. I don't think there's anything in the article that would indicate that a yorkie's eyes could flash both colors. My camera also has red eye reduction, and it doesn't really work for Thor. I've read some amateur books on photography that said that red eye reduction works on humans by reducing the pupil size (reaction to bright light). In pets that doesn't work because the pupil is so much larger. I usually use the first flash on the camera to see if it's going to light up Thor's eyes. If it does, I change the angle. |
Keep on Flashing One of my favorite things is looking at all the photo's. So keep on flashing and posting them please. I know it is one of the hardest things to get a little yorkie just right. A lot of you are really good at it. Well done :) |
