Choosing a Name...
 

Please tell me some/all of you had a very hard time naming your yorkies as well! I have been planning to get a yorkie for months and making a long list of names, but as soon as I found my baby I knew a lot of the names didn't fit her. Still, it is so hard narrowing the rest down! I have been asking family and friends for help but that kind of makes it worse because most of them have chosen names that I wasn't leaning towards. :confused:

When I came home from meeting my puppy and opened the pics on my computer "Mika" popped into my head and I thought that had to be a sign that that was just her name. But lately I'm leaning towards Bailey. A couple other names that I like and that family and friends also like are Coco and Zoey. Also lots of people want me to name her Roxy, which was a top name on my list before I met her. I still like it, especially because my cat's name is Rory and I think those names are cute together, but I'm not liking it as much as Bailey.

So I guess I want either your opinions on these specific names, or your opinions on how to know which name is right! Go with your first instinct? The one that makes you smile? The one others like? Or should I wait until I get her and see what she responds to? The breeder told me to let her know if I pick a name so they can start calling her that. So I've been driving myself crazy since Monday (when I met the puppy/put a deposit) trying to choose her name!

One more question: For those of you who chose your puppy before you got to bring them home, did anyone decide on a name and then end up changing your mind once you had the puppy? :animal-pa

i chose Layla before i brought her home and named her at 2 weeks so the breeder could start calling her by name- so even though i didn't want to change it after she came home it would have been hard as she had been called it for a long time!

I like Bailey and i like Zoey too :D

Naming them can be hard !! It was almost as hard as choosing my kids names :) They are all cute but I like Zoey and Mika the best. Your first instinct is usually the best. Don't chose a name just because everyone else seems to like it best . It's your puppy!! You need to love the name. When I was pregnant I would use my sons names all the time just to see how it sounds and to see if I would get tired of saying Wolfgang ( I did :p) so maybe just try saying it alot and see which one sticks.

I really love the name mika its so cute and unique than other names. There is so many Baileys and Roxys i think. Mika is so pretty!:D MIKA!

of you can also play around with the name too like Mikai. That sounds pretty too. Hope you find a suitable name for your pretty baby!

Thanks for the responses! Since I don't have any kids yet I think it is basically like naming my first baby!

Maybe I should wait until I get her home.

They're calling her "Star" now though and I don't like that, so I don't want her to think that's her name!

I hoped making these would help me pick which was her name...but not so much. It made me like all the names more. :rolleyes:

Aww , she is adorable and they all seem to fit her. ( I know , I'm no help at all ) but I still like Mika or Zoey. Since your cat is Rory how about Lorelai ...sorry to much Gilmore Girls I guess. :p

Haha, I kind of did name my cat after Gilmore Girls. Except we always named all of my mom's cats/kittens (she used to breed persians) Disney names. So I made her real name Aurora and called her Rory for short. :)

I like Mika or Zoey. She is adorable. Congratulations!!!!

Mika is what I had picked out for mine, then changed it to Nakisha beings she didn't fit Mika, But I like Bailey better and she (your baby) looks like a Bailey, But I like differant names. That way when you are somewhere and call her your not going to get 4 others with the same name.

Mika is a nice name. We waited 10 days to name our Crumb. The breeder was calling him Chip. We played with all sorts of names to find one that would stick. Crumb stuck a bit, after we were calling him Tidbit, but engraving his name tag at PetSmart synched it, then it was really his name. Take your time, the pup won't suffer any.

Just looking at the pics you posted with names, I like Mika on your lil one. It suites her.
Thankfully ours was a gift for my little boy and he had Curly picked out for ages before I ever considered getting a puppy. Then when he picked her out of the litter, he informed us her last name was Mac. I think it's about as cool as it gets.

I think the name will come to you naturally. I had planned to call Thor "March", but when it actually came down to it, I felt Thor fit him better. It felt natural.

Crumb!!! that is such a cute name. this is a little random but i always wanted a hamster named Crumbs and then when i got Bentley the FIRST thing i said when i saw him was "omg, he looks like a hamster!" he was just a tiny little fluff ball. but thats a good name for a dog, especially if they are allowed in the kitchen/dining room cause im sure they love to lick the crumbs off the floor! :p

I like Mika best, but all those names are cute:) When I first decided to get a yorkie I knew that I wanted the name 'Wicket' if I got a little boy (after one of the Ewoks in Star wars:rolleyes:) but we picked a little girl, and my 4-year old suggested 'Twinkle'......it's such a delicate girly name, and she's not that at all! So I find it quite funny. I'm getting my little boy yorkie in about 6 weeks and he's going to be Wicket:D xxx

A lot of people have dogs named Coco and Zoey and Roxy and Bailey... but Mika is soooo cute and it's not common really. I LOVE it! :D

I like Mika. I think that that is cute! I have had my names picked out since they were 2 weeks. Finley comes home tomorrow! and Jeta comes home 4-18!

mika is pretty name for a pretty gal.. I am sure as time goes on she will have more nick names.

Like ours he is named Veer ( Brave ) now we call him "Hippdy" ( he hops around alot, like a rabbit ) when he barks alots he is called "Mr.BarkFace"

I agree... I wasn't going to post a response because I couldn't decide either but after seeing the pictures... I think Bailey fits her the best. Although, since Bailey is such a common name, why not mix up the spelling and go with Baylee or Baylie or even Bailee (sorry, I'm real big on out of the norm spellings)

Hey Thanks, Laura. What else do you name a 4 lb dog? People seem to get a hoot out of his name. You know how it is, there's always a string of nicknames. This week it's Mr. McGilicutty. We've had Crumb a month today and he's just the best little dog.

I guess I have to say Bailey. I went with Bailey because it was the only name me and my hubby could agree on when I was pregnant for a boys name. I already had a girls name I loved and I had a baby girl. So we said we would use Bailey on our next dog/cat we would get. So when we got Bailey we already had her name. I tried different spellings of it but we only liked the commom way. I really love Mika as well. I think it is such a cute name and so original. My Shelby came to us from her breeder knowing her name already and that was kinda nice. The breeder got her used to it before she came home to us. Good luck!!!

We had our little girl about a week before we named her....nothing seemed to fit. Then one day it hit me.....HALO!! She's my little 14 lb. angel, and she was a gift from my breeder!:D If you're set on one of your names, I think she looks like a Bailey. Just pick the name that suits her personality. Good Luck!;)

When I started looking for a yorkie, I did some research on dog names and one of the recommended (the sound is effective for the dog's hearing) names was Cash. I immediately thought of Johnny Cash.
Well, I had some doubts about naming him JR Cash and didn't decide until I got him. A friend drove with me (to hold him) and when she saw him, she immediately said that he was a perfect JR Cash.

Well, she was right. Although I still get some weird comments about the name, I am naming my new baby June Carter!! They are gonna be the perfect pair!
