Are Yorkies good at agility? I would love to take some agility classes with Tobie when he's old enough but do Yorkies normally do well with agility? I don't really plan on doing any competitions, I just think it would be fun time spent with him. I wish I would have done classes with my Rat Terrier because they do excel at agility but she is far too old now. Has anyone here done this with their Yorkie? |
I haven't done this with Snoopy, but I've thought about classes for it. I bet they'd be good. They're smart (well, we say Snoopy has "selective" intelligence), and fast. I wonder if the jumping part would be hard on their legs. |
It can be done! A member here does agility with his yorkie. Mike (alaskayorkie) and Eddie (the cute yorkie) do agility together. If you do a little digging, you can find many cute vids of Eddie doing agility here on YT! |
Here are some: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...l-dropout.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-practice.html (a recent vid) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-practice.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...ility-vid.html (All 3 doggies are super cute in this one!) I hope Mike doesn't mind, but he's the first person I thought of! |
i know a couple of people from a show forum that do agility with their yorkies. i have seen videos of them and they are super at agility. |
I am interested in this too. We've just done some things at home like jump-never too high to protect his legs/hips-and we just got the dowels and bases to hold the poles to learn how to weave but haven't started it yet. Our dog school offers classes and I'm hoping Johnny will be good for that. Are there any characteristics to look for in the dog's personality and temperament? |
I'm glad to hear this. I really think I am going to enroll him in classes when he's old enough. It would be a lot of fun and good exercise for both of us! |
Does the standard matter when it comes to agility? I'm pleased someone asked this - I've been thinking about taking Twinkle to agility classes because I think she'd be really good.....she loves being outside and when we set up our own little 'course' she flew round it! Would she ever be able to take part in competitions (eventually) even though she's above standard weight for a yorkie (she's 8lb)? Sorry if that's a really dumb question:rolleyes: xxx |
Are agility competitions for pure-bred and within breed standards only? |
