Whining Hey guys! I have a problem with a yorkie I recently recieved from my mom's friend. He is about 1.5 years and today he arrived at my house. Tonight though, he kept whining! I had no idea what he wanted. >.< But when i picked him up.. he stopped whining. And also when I put him to sleep with my mom, he stopped. I really don't know what he wants, or what I'm, supposed to do. Should I keep carrying him? Or just let him cry until he gets used to it. He's very energetic and won't seem to lie down and sleep until he is with someone else. Please help! |
Aw, he is probably nervous in his new environment and wants comfort. What sleeping arrangements do you plan for him? Will you be crating him at night? On the dog bed on the floor? In your bed? Whatever they are, I recommend putting them in place now and sticking with them. So if you don't plan to let him in your bed long term, don't let him sleep there now, because you will never be able to get him out. Other than that, I think it's fine to hold him, play with him, and give him lots of reassurance that he's arrived in a home where he will be treasured. |
As long as you know the baby is not ill, it appears he might be having a tough time being away from his previous owner. Since he stops crying when he is held, they might have held him a lot. Just be patient (get some ear plugs) and you may need to let him cry a bit. It is like bringing a puppy home, they cry a little (at night) because of the new environment and missing their litter mates. Be patient, it will be worth it. I have a little one that is used to waking up at 3am (like clockwork) and doing her business, after she goes outside we curl up on the couch and watch tv. Just this morning I was tired so hubby took her out and put her back in the pen to go to sleep. She wasn't having that and cried until I got up. I am a mush mess when she is sad. :D |
Thanks for the replies guys! really appreciate it. But, when I go to sleep, I do invite him to come on my bed but before I go to sleep, there is a doggie bed and the couch for him but he tends to sleep next to my door with my shoes and stuff. |
He's probably just a little afraid of new home and needs some tlc. As for sleeping arrangements we have ours in a pen at night. Hot Rod cryed and whined for 2 nights and then he was fine. I had more anxiety pains than he did I think. |
