Saved by the cat I took my 7 month old puppy outside today for a little leash training. I was just walking her in our driveway when I notice our 8 year old momma kitty stalking something about 15 feet away in a small 2 inch high patch of clover near the drive way. I immediately saw a snake with mouth wide open ready to strike. Luckily the cat was smart enough to avoid the snake but I was thankful she alerted me to it's presence. I immediately put my baby up and got the shovel. I kill the snake, a 18" copperhead. He was sure ready to fight. Anyway, here in Texas is was 82 degrees today and with this warmer weather of course the snakes will be coming out. Just a warning for those of you that let your babies out in a fenced area or off lead, BEWARE OF SNAKES. |
I HATE SNAKES!!! Good thing you had your kitty!! |
That is why we always have cats at our house. We live on the lake and get snakes all the time, 2 this week. It is going to get cold tonight so hopefuly they will go away for a few more weeks!! Thanks for the Warning!!! |
OMGGGGGGG, you've got guts! I wouldn't have stuck around long enough to kill the thing. UGH, I may even have nightmares just reading about it  |

I showed the snake to my husband when he got home and he said it was the biggest copperheads he had ever seen. He said it was closer to 24" long, definitely full grown. It definitely got my attention and made me realize I need to be careful walking around outside. I know a couple of years ago a lady I know was walking to her car at night and got bit by a copperhead and she had to be hospitalized. |
SHEESH!!!! I would have went RUNNING too!!! I HATE snakes!!! Im soooooooooooooooooooo glad your kitty was there to save you and your baby!!! WTG kitty!!! |
Oh how scary. It is uncanny how smart our furkids are. Thank you for the reminder that it is officially "snake season" for those of us in warmer climates AND that the snakes are hungry! |
OMG! One good thing about freezing our butts off half the year up here in Canada is no snakes, ahhh..... Way to go! :) |
:eek:You're so brave - I would have been terrified! What a clever kitty:) xxx |
Give that kitty a treat!!:D :D Maybe our cold is not so bad after all. All we have are garden snakes. |
Wow, now that makes your hair stand on end. You and your cat deserve a huge pat on the back. I will say you are braver than me, I would have run for the hills at the sight of a snake! Great Job!! |
Snakes can bite after they have been killed too so you still need to avoid the mouth. I know it doesn't make sense but it's reflex and the poison is still there so always use extreme caution. |
Way to go momma kitty!!! |
Yikes!! I hate snakes!! But what a good kitty. |
