house training my Yorkie Hello, I am new to this site. I rescued a male yorkie 4 months ago. His name is Nitro. I have taken him to puppy class and he knows how to sit, down, roll over, stay but we can't seem to get him house trained. We follow him and try to get to know his signal take him out sometimes we are lucky, mostly not. He is so quick to pee and poop inside. We have tried a crate he pees and poops in it. I am frustrated. Please help. |
It takes awhile to get these little buggers trained. Is his crate big? I read that there should only be enough room for them to lie down because thay won't soil where they sleep. I down sized my babies crates with pillows and they haven't had any accidents in them since I did this. How old is Nitro? Did he use puppy pads? Welcome to YT! |

I kept Apple in a 4' X 10' area (tile floor) w/several puddle pads down...When she would wake up, I wouldn't let her out of the area, until she had wet/or whatever lol...Then, after playing or eating, I'd put her back in the area, and then make a big fuss of her when she did her pee pees...She's 4 1/2 months old, and really doing well...Now, I've added puddle pads in the foyer (w/more tile floor), and she has a choice...When she used to go on the carpet, I made a HUGE ruckus about it...Of course, no hitting, etc., but really let her know I was ticked off...But, having said all that, yours is a little older and may take some extra time getting him to co-operate...Wishing you much success, Maggie & Apple |
