Change in Attitude I dont know if I am posting in the correct area or not so please move as seen fit.... My Bindi Bear's attitude has changed somewhat recently. Shes the picture of friendliness. However, in recent weeks she's shown some snarkiness towards my parents (whom I currently live with). For example, if I'm holding her and they come to pet her or take her she gets bitey. If shes napping or sleeping with me and my parents come to take her. She growls and bites. Also, if i take a shower or use the bathroom shes right outside the door. No one is allowed to cross in front of the door. Which is a predicament bc then my parents cannot get in or out of their room without her jumping and trying to "attack" them. What gives? Why the mood swing?? She only seems to do it to my parents. If my BF takes her out of my hands shes all open paws going over to him. any thoughts? how can i calm this behavior? |
Thats a tuffy. I get alot of tips from the dog whisperer Cesar he is such a dish lol |
Sounds like she has forgotten who is the alpha 'dog'! |
hmm perhaps.... shes never mean to me tho. almost always listens to my commands. |
How do you react to her when she does this? |

Well i dont react. I just take my shower. I get out and she follows me and then requires that i rub her belly. Then she gets up and gives me kisses. As for her bitey-ness when i hold her.... I just say NO! however in the begining we'd laugh about it. |

Maybe that is it, she isn't being corrected. I see raising my dogs very similar to raising my kids. there are certain behaviors that just aren't acceptable (of course those behaviors are different for the kids and dogs :)). She needs to see you as the "alpha" one in this situation and you won't let her treat other members of the family (or pack) this way. |
I think you need to stop that behavior asap. Let her know who is boss. She is NOT in charge. If you laugh it off and let it continue, I promise you it will get worse and she will start growling and nipping at anyone who crosses her path, including kids, etc. I also see it as she thinks she owns you and is protecting you. That's not a good thing, even if you think it's cute now, it won't be cute when nobody can pet her, ya know. I would see if your parents can walk by and when she starts the growling/nipping thing, to quickly say "No!" and maybe pick her up or shake pennies in a can or something to startle her. Then she will associate the growling/nipping with something BAD. |
