strange coat question... ok well after a bath bailees hair is fluffy and silky, but the next day its kind of clumpy,if that makes sense?its not oily it just doesnt have that silkyness and fluffyness to it.its flat and not shiny and kind of stringy...does anyone have any reccomendations for shampoo or anything to help this?i am consdering petsilk but idk,i dont like the minksheen smell... |
I'm curious about that too... We used minksheen the last time and already the next day the beautiful shine was gone. I might go back to Aveeno oatmeal shampoo... |
did i do something wrong? I feel like lately i get maybe one to two replies to my threads and thats it...:( |
Jackson's hair is the same way. I will brush him and it looks more fluffy and smooth and 2 hours later... it's all stringy. Ahh! |
Baxter too keeps his shine and fluff only a day or 2. But he does like to get in the leaves and such and when he does get a back I swear the water is just plain dirty. I bathe him once a week and don't want him to get dry skin but I really do think he needs a bath more often. Yorkie hair is totally different than other dogs. |

Yeah, I'm going to start giving Jackson more baths too. He really does need it. I think i'm going to have to do once a week to get him properly cleaned. He's outside A LOT especially with the weather getting warmer and he's always running through mulch, mud, leaves, etc. Gross, lol |
How often do you groom (brush them) I find that a wide detangling comb works better at seperating the hair and brushing it daily helps with the shine |
Baxter gets combed every day. That is what my wonderful groomer suggested. She even gave me the comb to use. It doesn't help with the fluff. |
she gets brushed every single day,if shes outside sometimes more |
I thought it might be the conditioner... My 4 are brushed out and combed every day and still they loose the "awwww... effect" the second day after their bath (once a week.) When I use Aveeno oatmeal shampoo they are not as shiny and fluffy to begin with but stay that way longer. Here in ABQ we have a lot of very fine dust that might get caught by the oily substances of the conditioner... |
My husband says Clarence has kind hair...the kind that grows on a monkeys butt!!! poor little guy....once his hair gets about 1.5" long it looks dry...it could feel as soft as silk but it just LOOKS dry. The Minksheen has helped, his hair is shineyer but still not glossy like Keegans. |
Baxter spends half his life looking oily. Of course that could be b/c I use lots of lipsticks and gloss and am constantly kissing him! |
I'm stumped I would have thought that the brushing would help spread the oils and make it shinny. I wonder if some of the higher end dog shampoos make a gloss like they do for human hair |

did you make sure you rinsed out the shampoo all the way? sometimes if its left on their coat, it will make them look oily, or not as shiny!? |
