Traveling with more than one pet? I am curious... for those of you with more than one yorkie, or simply more than one pet, how do you travel? I'd love to get a second yorkie, but right now I can take Violet with me in the cabin on most airlines, so it's ideal. As far as I know they won't let you take more than one pet in the cabin (and I don't know how you'd fit them both!). Just wondering... TIA! |
I'm not sure but I could call the airline about this. |
Hmmm... I guess I'm not really asking what the airlines allow. I can easily look that up online. I'm just wondering, do people with multiple pets not travel? Do they drive everywhere? Do they leave their pets with friends while they are out of town? Do they fly and put their yorkies in cargo (which I doubt!). Thanks! |
I don't know how big Violet is but if she is on the smaller side and the pup you got was smaller, they could share the same larger bag. Otherwise, I don't know how you could manage to bring them along on the plane if you were traveling alone. You'd have to be much more talented than I am. Both of my girls are big, so they have to have their own carriers, which unfortunately means twice the fees and of course I can't be traveling alone. :thumbdown:eek: |
My husband and I flew with our boys to TX last winter. I would never put them in cargo . . . Typically it is one pet per carrier per passenger, but as long as you're not flying alone, no big deal. For vacations, I have a kennel that I trust and the get thier own vacation!! |
I travel by car or I don't go. I have my places that I like to stay that are dog friendly and generally have kitchens so I don't have to eat out and leave my girls alone. If I am traveling alone, I put them in the stroller, cover it with a blanket and take them into the restroom with me. No one is the wiser. The few people that have figured it out just smile and say "I would do the same if my dog would fit in that!" I refuse to leave them alone in the car, especially in the summer when it is hot. Rest areas should have pet friendly rest rooms, like airports have family restrooms. If necessary I find a Petco to stop at as they generally have public restrooms. You just find ways of making do. It is so worth it! |
I have a maltese and a yorkie. 5 yr and 9 mos. If the 2 small dogs can fit in one travel bag ( and my dogs can) the airlines will allow you to put them both in the same bag and charge you for one dog. otherwise you have to travel with 2 people each carrying one dog. So if I am traveling alone by air with now owning 2 dogs I leave either one at home or both at home. Mainly because airlines are charging well over $150 per dog PER segment. United charges $185 per dog per segment. Thats $370 round trip PER DOG!!!! Its just not worth that kind of money! I have a good doggie sitter they have a good time there and are well taken care of. OR if we are driving we definately take them with us. That has been the deal for our household. |
Thank you for all of the input! I can't get another dog right now, but I hope to some day. :) |
