So proud of Chip - he "saved" my grandfather
 

My grandparents are 84 and 85 years old and don't act it. They drove 5 hours to see us and bring me some living room furniture that they bought me (long story). Anyways, they just got in and my grandfather was carrying the pieces inside and I told him to wait but he's stubborn and there is no arguing with him. :rolleyes: Anyways, I was holding Smokey so he wouldn't run out the door and was talking to my grandmother in the kitchen. My grandfather walked into the next room and apparently lost his balance and we didn't hear him fall. Next thing you know, Chip starts barking in the next room. I didn't think much of it because he does that same bark with people he doesn't know well, so I figured he was just barking at my grandfather because he's unsure of him. Well after a couple seconds of listening to Chip bark my grandmother calls out to my grandfather and he didn't answer (hard of hearing). We decide to check on him and sure enough, he is on the ground. He wasn't hurt or anything (thankfully!) but he said when he fell Chip got right in front of his face and started barking at him. When we came in Chip was a couple feet away, barking directly at him. He was alerting us that something was wrong! I'm so proud of him and I'm glad my grandfather wasn't hurt!

Awww, Chip is a HERO! That's AWESOME. I'm sure he got some special treats and extra loving. That's something you can't teach. Has born to it!

I love this story for several reasons -- your wonderful, caring (stubborn!) grandparents, your so-smart Yorkie (they really DO know) and the inspiration I felt when reading it. Thank you so much for sharing . And way to go, Chip!!

I always knew he was smart, but he just proved how smart he really is!

When he was younger (like 6 months or so) no one was home and hubby was working night shift. He was about to leave for work and that would have left me and Chip alone... well we heard a noise that I told Adam to check out before he leaves... it sounded like something fell or whatever and no one else was in the house. Well, he opened the door to the bedroom and Chip bolted out, before Adam could get to the top step, Chip was already down the steps. He went and sniffed in every nook and cranny, then proceeded to the basement, not stopping for anything... he checked everything downstairs, then went all the way back to the top level and went in all the rooms in there, then he went and sat in our bedroom doorway when he was done checking. We just followed him in amazement.

Chip may be 6.5 lbs, but he sure doesn't know it!

This is why I never ignore Snoopy's alerting barks. So far, he's only alerted us that there are squirrels in the backyard...every 10 minutes....:p
