Broken-off Top Knot Hairs After wearing ponies in her hair so she can see, Isla's top knot hairs are starting to break off. I'm just wondering, besides shaving off her head hair if there are any suggestions to stop this or is that just a part of having the rubberband in alot? She needs to see but will all the hairs eventually just be broken at that spot so a pony won't fit anyway? BTW, she has cottony hair. |
Do you remove the band every night? Also cut the bands out. Don't put the band in too tightly. Once you have her hair up...run the tail end of a rat tail comb beneath the band so the tension is released. That's what creates the little poof you see. I use leave in conditioner in topknots too. These will help in preventing more breakage. Other than that...not putting her hair up everyday will help in new growth. |

 Good advice. Also, I like to use the little cloth covered kind of bands. I think they're scrunchie brand, found them in the baby section at Walmart. These don't seem as harsh on the hair. |
Sounds like you are putting the bands on way too tight. I leave Joeys band in, all the time, but it's not tight and close to the scalp. |
My Jewels' topknot hairs do that if I put the band in too tight |
I forgot to mention use grooming bands instead of latex bands. They are gentler on the hair. |

I buy latex grooming bands from ebay, they have some bright neon colors on there :) Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
I've been using the little girl bands since I have a little skingirl who uses them. ;) They are really stretchy and thin, so to make sure Isla doesn't rub them out (which she tries to do everytime she gets a new one) I have to wrap them pretty tight. Maybe that's the problem...but then how do you get them to stay in if they are playing, rubbing, etc? Cause if I wrap the binder 3 times vs 4 times it won't stay 3 minutes. If she doesn't have a pony in you seriously can't even see her face at all-and I'm sure she can't see too much either... |
I don't use the rubber bands or the latex bands. The baby section has ones that are cloth covered and don't pull out the hair. I think someone mentioned the name "scrunchies", that's what I use. I mean, I personally use the adult ones for my hair because anyone with long hair knows the feeling of having one of those rubber bands being pulled out of your hair. There is no getting around it.........It Hurts. :( |
I would never pull them out, i snip them with the scissors Betty & Micah my love:aimeeyork |
