Is it hard on a puppy to move??? Im moving to a place closer to my job. I don’t want to stress out my baby more then I have to, so does anyone have any info on how to make this an easy move for her? I know regardless of what I do its going to be a bit hard on her. It will be just Daisy and I, the bf is not coming with us and they are pretty close. She is hardly ever alone, but once we move here (about an hr away from where I live now) she would be alone a bit more often. I can bring her to work with me, that’s not the problem. But If I go out or have to do the shopping she'll be alone:( |
It will definitly be an adjustment. We moved 3 1/2hrs away about 7yrs ago. I don't think the pups had any trouble adjusting. I had a silky terrior at the time who was very emotional. He did great. I would do little trials on leaving her alone. Like sit ouside for ten minute intervals to see what she does and slowly increase it. Just remember to take her to the place you want her to potty first. That is really important. I remember reading something on that.:) Good luck with your move:) |
i moved last year (i think late march) and it was not hard at all for my babies :) they did great and never showed any signs of stress or anything like that...i set up thier xpen exactly the way it was before and they took right to their new home i am sure they also liked that we went from a 700 sq ft apt to a 2500+ sq ft house with a backyard :D ... they were not sure what to make of all the extra room at first but once they were there, they took off running and have not stopped since ;) lol it might be a hard adjustment since your BF will no longer be living with you two, but i am sure as long as she has you, she will do fine :) it is so nice you are able to take her to work with you! |
You are so lucky that you can bring your dog to work with you, I'm sure many people would love that. I imagine moving is a little stressful, I've read many threads where after people move their dog who was once perfectly house trained had many setbacks, usually in a week or so they adjusted. Have some Natures Miracle on hand. You don't say how old your little girl is, but at 2 Joey sleeps much of the day, leaving for short periods and coming back without fussing over them when returning, (wait a few minutes) is the best way to get them accustomed to your being gone. Good luck with the move, and at least it cuts down on your commute time. |
We moved twice in three years, and my boys did fine. Before we moved in, we brought them to each new place and let them sniff around. (They're males, so we put belly bands on, and glad we did!). After that, they remembered that they were there, and they adjusted very fast after we moved in. It's been a year and a half, and it's like they've been here forever. :) I'm sure Daisy will do just fine. As someone above suggested, take her first to the place where she'll go potty. Good Luck! |
We moved in October and the pups took it well. The only problem at first was that Adie barked at every little noise until she understood what it was. They spent the first day exploring every nook and cranny. I couldn't open a closet or cabinet door without all four of them sticking their noses in to see what they could see. So I think they adjusted just fine. Unfortunately I got sick the second day we were there so Adie and Cassie spent a lot of time cuddling Mommy. Then my brother died so all 4 of them were on top of me most of the time. When I was not in the house dh said they were fine so I know they were reacting to my sadness. |
You can leave a tee-shirt that you've worn with her when you have to leave her. That may help her some, to have your smell close by. And when you do have to leave, be very casual about it. "Bye Daisy, see you in a few hours." and just walk out. If you don't make a big production out of it, she won't start to wonder what is wrong. |
