Shedding?!?! I know Yorkies don't usually shed, but what happens to their puppy fur when their adult coat is coming in? Toby is really starting to change colors. But he is shedding like crazy! He was in my lap earlier and when he jumped off, I could see his hair all over my shirt. Is this normal? We've always had a sneaking suspicion that there's a little chihuahua blood in him somewhere. Could that be causing it? Thanks for any advice! |
It does sound like he could be a mix. How old is he? |
i can tell you my bentley is 100% pure yorkie...and when he was losing his puppy coat and getting his adult coat, HE SHED...i am not sure why people think yorkies do not shed at all...they have hair like humans and do not have the typical dog fur and undercoat, but they still shed just like we humans do just because your baby is shedding, it does not necessarily mean he is a mix :) |
My vet says all dogs shed. Some just not so much. |

My oldest yorkie(6) sheds. When I bathe her, you wouldn't believe all the hair in the tub. My little biewer(9 mos) also sheds |

I understand that yorkies shed too, but she was saying that she is worried that her baby might not be purebred, and I'm sure the fact that he is shedding is not the only reason she thinks that. But in terms of just shedding, yes yorkies do shed. When I bathe Cohen, he practically clogs up my sink. But I've never had him sitting on my lap, and then we he got off, leave a ton of hair behind. A lot of things effect shedding though, such as climate, age, etc. |
Shedding 1 Attachment(s) Tricksie is pure yorkie, 2 1/2 years old and she really sheds. She is healthy and her coat is beautiful. |
