baby yorkie's hair turning bright white, looks bald ok... this may seem silly, but my 10 week old yorkie's hair is turning bright white on the top of her head and the poor thing is looking bald :(.... I expected lighter... but not bright white? will that be the color of the hair on her face? I see all of these really cute photos of your babies with lighter face fur... I have been searching frantically for someone who has a yorkie with this bright white face fur.... is this transitional? another quick question... her fur is coming in really really fast... almost daily I look at her and think -- WOW.. you are looking wicked! FUR sticking out everywhere... and brushing her is just not easy.... THE WORST! When do you start the whole groomer thing? She has had a few baths... that was a story all by itself... but this crazy growing out look is just too funny! Thanks much! PS -- I just love yorkietalk... I learn so much about my baby by listening to your stories! |
Welcome to YT! A lot of our babies looked like that. There has been a few discussions about our bald looking babies. And the grooming thing, try a little everyday. Don't let her win. ;) :p She's got a whole life of grooming ahead of her. |
1 Attachment(s) i've seen some yorkies with bright white hair, but those are the ones that are usually mixed with malteses. here's a picture. |
My Chico has white white hair too and I love how it looks. From his picture you can tell a little bit and the rest of his body is light light grey. Some black remains from when he was a tiny baby though on the tips. I think he will be a very light colored yorkie than the ones I have seen with black or red and he is a full yorkie. My husband compares his hair to an old persons hair. Still cute as a botton to me! :D |
The color of his head is normal as adult the little one will probably be a lighter one . |
Ted's hair did the same exact thing. He now is very light on his head as you can see by the avatar. I don't consider it white though it looks more like blonde to me. |
Linus's hair did that too, and when I would take him places people asked me if his hair was falling out (which it wasnt'). His hair is still very light on his head, but it's slowly turning more brown. Don't worry, it won't be white forever! |
You baby is probably going to end up being blue and gold (or tan) and this is just a transition to that. Nothing to worry about.. |
Jewels hair on her head did this too now her whole head is a light tan. |
Scout is 15 weeks and is doing the same thing right now. Last week he actually had a streak on his head and looked like a skunk. We called him skunky for a few days. Now he has more, so his nickname is Baldy, or little old man...teehee. It's normal. She will be a beautiful blonde in no time! |
Chloes hair has white roots and makes her look bald. |

Coat Changes It is common for the hair to come in white before changing to a tan or gold. Dig deep and you will find the hair so light that it will make it look like the puppy is almost going bald. It is so common that I warn my puppy buyers about that. Some will start "breaking" as its called anywhere from 9 weeks to close to a year old. If you'd like to email me a pic privately I'll look at it. Its starwoodyorkies@comcast.net. Some coats are finer or sparser than others also-- some is hereditary although some conditions can cause hair loss. Low thyroid, some types of worms, fleas and vitamin deficiencies also can be problems. Hope this helps but I'm betting your little one is normal. Groomimg If you can spend 5 minutes a day it will help as you grow thru the puppy tangles. Use a grayhound comb and a pin brush -one without the balls. Petedge.com is the cheapest place. Lots of creme rinse, and the baby hair detangler helps. Brush first then the comb- make sure you get to the skin where the hair tangles first. Be firm-- you are the parent. I tell mine its their luck to be born a yorkie rather than a beagle. Brenda |
