Peeing on the couch From time to time, our Yorkie has decided to take a pee on the couch, we don't get it , He uses his pee pads in his room, and does #2 on it as well. At first I thought maybe it was his way of rebeling for not having alot of 1 on 1 attention. So we have made sure to deidcate even more time to him. Playing, grooming, petting, talking you name it. But at least once a week he goes on the couch. I even spray it with the keep off spray. Any suggestions on what to do? :confused: |

Roxy is almost 4.5 years old. Last year she decided that she is going to pee on the couch from time to time. Roxy has anxiety and stress issues, as well as wanting to mark issues as well. She is spayed - she has issues...I guess I have lined the couch with a waterproof mattress pad, then a sheet on top to protect the couch (this was after I had to steam clean the couch). She will still pee on the couch from time to time, but I have figured out that if I put a whole bunch of toys randomly spread on the couch she won't pee on them ;) Is he neutered? |
Are you on the couch with him when he does it? If not, I would not allow him on the couch without supervision... :confused: |
Same problem here, it's happened 4 times.....good luck...I got no help here with the problem. |

UGH..Tobie has done that 3 times now and he has even peed on the bed at night about 4 times, I don't know if he is was having a bad dream when he peed in the bed because he was covered in the pee when I wake up..so I know how you feel |
We have had Yorkies for the past 32yrs. each of our dogs has peed where they shouldn't like in our bed etc. I suggest using the mattress pad that is waterproof with the toys all ovet it like one post said. For mine it was stress/anxiety from us going without them. Try to have patience and do what you can to protect the furniture, hopefully he will get over his little attitude when he sees it dosen't help. I just got 2 new puppies and am having potting issues bigtime so I understand how frustrating it can be..... Mine are 14 wk old littermates. I wish both of us luck !!! |

Clean the spot really good with vinegar and water. The vinegar will stink until it dries really good, then the smell is gone. A lot of times once they mark a spot they will continue because of the odor..vinegar will kill urine/ammonia(sp?) smell...I've heard mix 50/50 ratio but I mix the vinegar stronger than that. Mac did that once when my daughters friend brought over another male dog... good luck |
He isn't Neutered, and he knows what he did is wrong, because he hides right away, it kills him to be scolded. So I think for now I am going to try the 50/50 to see if I can get the ammonia smell out, and also try to keep some stuffed animals on it. Thanks |
Sophie has done that a couple of time when someone comes over. I make sure to tell ours visiter not to pet her on the couch. She is better about it now that she is older. when she was a puppy she pee everytime someone came over. Lucky for me most of the time she is at the door to meet eveyone. and sophie is a marker and she is a girl. When i walk her she has to pee on every mailbox in town! she even lifts her leg a little when she pees always has. :animal36 |
I had this issue with Holly for the longest time. Most often it occurred after we got out of bed in the morning and she got excited and got on the couch and peed before she went to her pee pad. I restarted the training and physically carried her to her pad and made her stay until she went before she got to run around and get on the couch. I also had a brief time where she would pee on the couch during the day, again I think it was out of excitement and forgetting to go to her pee pad. I banned her from the couch entirely until she could prove to me that she can use her pad at all times. If I was not at home and not able to watch her, she was kept in her ex-pen or the sofa was covered with plastic or filled with boxes or something so she could not get up there. Knock on wood she has not peed the couch now for several months. You need to be one step ahead, figure out the cause and go after it. In between, make the couch an unpleasant place to be. Being on the furniture is a privilege that must be earned. Good luck. |
